@luckymom22 gosh darn autocorrect haha. Thanks for the link!
@luckymom22 That’s funny, my daughter same major, Liberal Studies and goal of becoming teacher. She is deciding between University of Redlands, Notre Dame DeNamur, St. Mary’s & SLO. She has not hear back from Chapman yet. Her dad is opposed to any school except SLO or our local school, SJSU and she does not want to go there. All the privates gave her $ and the cost is equal or less than SLO so really tough decision. Chapman was her dream school so well see what happens.
@CaliMck15 Best wishes to her–those are all good choices! We are in San Diego and mine got into SDSU which is my alma mater, so of course I’d love it if she went there (selfishly want my baby to be close), but she wants to be away. Hopefully she’ll be back–her current plan is to get her credential either there or at Cal State San Marcos because she would like to teach in San Diego…time will tell. Older daughter may apply to Chapman for her PT (Physical Therapy) doctorate. Will y’all be attending Cal Poly’s Open House?
@luckymom22 Mine got waitlisted at SDSU. Yes we are going to the open house we’ll see what happens! SLO’s Liberal Studies Credential program sounds great! It’s gonna be a tough choice! My daughter does not want to be local either…
Finally created account. S was offered admission in mid February. Business Major.

Hello, it is I, a Cal Poly reject!
I previously posted my stats on this thread before and am currently thinking of appealing. When looking over my application again, I realized I made a mistake by not listing my 7th and 8th grade math courses. Is that a big deal in being accepted vs. rejected? If it is, then I’ll try appealing based on that. Otherwise, I’ll likely not. Any ideas?
@jlai43 We heard a couple weeks back that it is a big deal to not list required classes. Most certainly you were rejected for that. Also someone mentioned that incorrectly completing the application is not something can be appealed. Good luck!
@jlai43, if you did not list those, it probably dropped your MCA 500 points. Unfortunately application errors are specifically excluded as a reason to appeal. You will automatically be denied if that’s your only basis. Good luck where ever you land. It’s far more about what you do with your opportunity than it is about the specific school you go to.
I received my acceptance email on February 17 (sorry for the late reply)
Accepted, W GPA 4.3 UW 3.8 SAT 1360 ACT 28
Materials Engineering Major
One of my friends got rejected for the Electrical Engineering major just because it’s so competitive for that particular one; another guy with a near 5.0 GPA also got rejected…both for that major I believe.
do you know the rest of their stats with a cal poly gpa? waiting to hear for electrical engineering
I was also accepted in mid-February.
Accepted for Microbiology
UW GPA: 3.6/ W: 4.0

In-state
Accepted (Sometime in February)
Major: Material Sciences and Engineering
GPA: 93.7333 UW, 99.0667 W

Out Of State
Oh no … difficult decisions!! … SLO vs. UCSD; SLO’s Preview day next month is the day before Triton day. SLO has fewer GE required courses (a good detail; i like flexibility), costs slightly less than UC yet is likely just as good (for bio major) and SLO gives BS degree instead of BA degree (in Bio.) from UC … maybe the BS degree is better in some ways than a BA, depending on what one’s plan is post-grad. Which college to choose … ?
^^ what do you want to do with a Bio major - are you looking at pre-med? The BA vs BS doesn’t really matter when applying to grad school. They are looking at your courses, grades and test scores. Have you been to both schools? They are very different with respect to level of competition, student interests/vibe and overall campus feel.
Thanks @lkg4answers – yes I’m looking at pre-med. (if I can get the 3.7+ GPA, that is). I’m curious re. what you mean re. DIFFERING LEVELS of competition between the two colleges, as though I did formerly think UCSD was more competitive than Cal Poly SLO, I became less convinced of this, when seeing the acceptances pour in for Cal Poly SLO Biology (and engineering) majors, with peoples’ stats as high as and higher (SATs) than mine – espec. the OOS biology admits – so although the school overall might be less competitive or more laid back, I was thinking that based upon the admits to biol.major at SLO, the competition for A’s in pre-med courses would be about the same at both universities (??) Or, do you think those high-SAT SLO admits were admitted, but then many of them ultimately choose to go elsewhere, and so the competition for A’s at SLO is less than, say, UCSD? After all, both are public colleges, so use grade curves, so I’ll need to aim for being in top 17-20% of all my science classes, if not all classes (at either Uni.). And as for other pros I’ve read about, at SLO the courses are taught by professors, as opposed to often by TAs at UCs (and that the SLO professors can focus on teaching, as they’re not required to do research, unlike the UC professors, no/right??) I know med. schools might think UCSD is higher ranked and so preferable to/than SLO, but think regardless of that, one (like me) would need a 3.8 GPA to get into a Calif med. school (vs. a 3.7 or 3.7+ to get in out of state med. school) perhaps at either college … though perhaps a 3.8+ at SLO vs. a 3.7+ at UCSD ? (if assuming similar MCAT, as I can’t predict my future MCAT yet.)
Sorry for such long question – in sum, I’m just really curious to know what you meant re. “different VIBES” comparing the two places, or can I just assume you mean SLO would be more, sort of, laid back in comparison to ucsd?
I haven’t yet visited, but feel like at the upcoming SLO Preview Day, many of the other visitors will also still be undecided (between SLO vs. UC) so I don’t know that I’ll necessarily notice a diff. vibe of students – unless visiting at another day (not “Preview Day”)? -And same for Triton day – there will be many still undecided visitors … but I could focus on checking out the already enrolled students? Though don’t know how much I can notice (re. gen’l student vibe) in just one day …
I was referring more to mindset than stats. You really can’t quantify “fit.”
As far as visiting, I’ve never been to Preview Day but when we visited, we went on a tour of College of Science and Math, a general campus tour, the admission session and a dorm tour. They were all scheduled back to back. We ate on campus and sat and watched as students went from class to class, hung out with each other, etc. We did the same at UCSD although we only did the admissions session and general campus tour there.
I would definitely visit both schools on weekdays rather than weekends so you can get a feel for what campus like is like. Pay attention to when their spring breaks are so that you schedule a trip when students are on campus.
I got rejected but something that made me feel better and might make a couple of my fellow rejects feel better on how your stats stand in regards to other colleges you’ve applied to. I know a girl who got rejected for biology at slo last year but was still accepted into ucla! You also can’t take a california state school’s rejection that personally as well since all they saw was just your grades and test scores over other schools you may have applied to that see your essays and ACT scores.
How good is Cal Poly SLO’s business program? I got accepted and I am seriously considering attending.
Agree with @sossenior . My son got waitlisted at SLO for CS but looks like he is accepted to UCLA. He got the engineering likely letter.
