Hello, Im going to be applying to colleges this fall under an architecture major, and Cal Poly is definitely on my list. Ive been going through CC’s threads and Arch. school seems like one of Cal Poly’s more difficult schools to get into.

Does anyone know the general stats of admitted Arch. students? Also when we apply, do we apply to the Architecture school or to the entire school? What are the admissions people looking for besides test scores?

Also, for any Arch. students out there, is Cal Poly’s Arch. program more design/art or technical based, is using a computer or drawing by hand emphasized more heavily, what are the class sizes?

Thank you in advance, and sorry for the rush of questions!

Well these are the stats I got from a brochure but they’re from 2008, so they might have gotten higher. It says 758 were selected out of 2938 for the college of arch & environmental design. The average GPA being 3.89 and SAT 1267 (math & reading). This is just for the college, so I’m guessing the stats for a specific major would be more competitive. I believe you apply for your major, but you can probably figure out from the application itself. The admission people, apart from test scores are probably looking at courses taken related to your selected major and how well you did in them. They will probably also look for stuff like internships, volunteer work, jobs, awards, etc related to your major. They probably put into account as well special circumstances related to the applicant.

Got the 2009 stats, it says 521 were selected out of 2444 for the College of Arch & Environmental Design. The average GPA being 3.96 and SAT 1295 (math & reading) and ACT 29. So I’m guessing this year might be even more competitive?
