So…I’d like to get into Cal Poly for the business administration major. My school offers a website with the stats of other students from our area. It shows the average accepted GPA, SAT, and ACT.

It shows that Cal Poly has:

GPA(idk if its CSU,unweighted,weighted, Not specified): 3.67
Combined SAT 1600: 1203
Single SAT 2400: 1782
Combined SAT 2400: 1799
ACT: 26

I have:
GPA: 3.39(Will go up a little bit, changing 2 B’s from last year to A’s, 3.4x)
Combined SAT 1600: 1290
Single SAT 2400: 1790
Combined SAT 2400: 1850
ACT: 28

I thought Cal Poly didn’t look at the 2400 SAT(1600 no?). Do they look at combined SATs or not? If they do, is a 1850 good for the school?

I’d really like to go to Cal Poly as it is only 4 hours away. The next university that can compete with Cal Poly for business in California that I have a shot at getting into is SDSU. That school’s 8 hours away though!
So, do you think the GPA is really hurting my shots? I do know that business isn’t as impacted as engineering.

I’m not in a position to “chance” you, but do want to point out that the stats you quote aren’t entirely correct. According to the Cal Poly Fall 2011 Factbook (page 54), incoming Freshmen to the Orfalea College of Business in Fall 2011 had average high school GPA of 3.82, average SAT Reading score of 586, average SAT Math score of 636, and average ACT score of 26.9.

OP - I want to revise my post to remove “the stats you quote aren’t entirely correct”, but am unable to do so at this point. I missed that the stats you listed are for students from your area. In any case, the Cal Poly Factbook stats are still useful for comparison purposes.

I calculated my CSU gpa to be 3.63
I really wish I would have known sophomore year that they cap you at a max of 8 semesters…I have probably double that which count for nothing…

Does CSU Long Beach compare to San Diego state or maybe even Cal Poly?

I will apply. Not sure if I should go for early decision or not. The acceptance rate is actually lower than the rate for regular admittance for some odd reason.

Apply to Cal Poly Pomona as well. I think that you would get in pretty easily to that school – The are really working on their business department and are opening a new expanded business building. Apply to SLO but make sure that you apply to at least 10 schools. Also, retake the ACT and hire an experienced tutor with a solid record of success in helping students improve their scores. A 28 is pretty good. But with your GPA you should try to get it to 30 or above. Cal Poly SLO prefers the ACT. Best of luck!
