Hi I’m applying for construction management as an alternate major for slo. I have a 4.02 w gpa and was wondering what the acceptance rate is and and my chances for fall of 2024.
Construction Management is estimated to have an admit rate of >50%. SLO does not guarantee that they will consider alternate majors so what is your 1st choice major?
Is the 4.02 GPA your SLO GPA ? (9-11th grade a-g course grades with an 8 semester cap of CSU/UC approved HS Honors, AP, IB and DE courses taken 10-11th grades).
SLO GPA range for admitted Freshman into the College of Agriculture was 3.88-4.23.
If SLO considers your alternate major, you have a solid chance for admittance.
HI Gumbymom,
For SLO, do you happen to know how many years do they cap for any bonus points for years of science? is it 7 or 8? My daughter just put in her stats and it is confusing as to whether to put AP Comp Sci Principles as a science or elective. She only has 1 year of elective but will have 8 years of science. Also, do you think 4.16 Cal State GPA competitive for materials engineering major? Thank you so much!
If (and this is a big IF) they are using the same MCA criteria for the bonus points it is capped at 4 years Science or 8 semesters.
SLO does not use the CSU GPA but their own calculated GPA of 9-11th a-g course grades with the 8 semester honors point cap for eligible courses taken 10-11th grades.
Thank you, this give us very little hope for SLO. If she adds in her 9th grade, it will lower her gpa as she is maxed out on honors. Even though she has lots of rigor. Sigh.
The more classes added to the GPA calculation, the more dilute the GPA becomes but that is the case for all SLO applicants. Materials Engineering had projected admit rate of >50% so she is probably still competitive. You never know when it comes to SLO, so all you can do is apply and see what happens.
I have a 4.22 capped weighted gpa for 9-11th grade only including 8 semesters of honors/ap. Does slo admit based on gpa and activities alone? Cause there are no essays if I’m not mistaken. I’m nervous my gpa isn’t high enough and I don’t want to ruin my chances because computer engineering is competitive.
Unknowns:
Yield by major
Competitiveness within the major
You can get an estimate by taking the FTF Target multiply by 3 (assuming yield is 33%) and divide by the FTF Apps. Since Wine and Viticulture is not a common major and found at few schools in California, the yield maybe higher so again just an estimate of the admit rate.
hi! already submitted my app so i don’t think i can change much, but i entered my 8th grade bio class (that counts for high school credit and is on my hs transcript) into the csu app; however, i’m hearing that you should only enter foreign language and math classes taken in middle school. is it okay to enter middle school science courses? thanks.
Yes, only FL and Math classes will count for Middle school. You will not be penalized for putting the Biology course there. SLO does not accept changes to coursework after submission.
I want to answer one specific question you asked. You wanted to know if AP Comp Sci Principles is an elective or science. It’s a science. And for the record, AP Comp Sci A is a math. The CSUs and UCs use the same list of A-G requirements and there is a list of what classes at each CA HS count for each requirement.
There is no benefit to your daughter in calling it an elective vs a science since there are no extra points for electives. Even though she’s got 8 science already, go ahead and give her the 9 she has earned. Doesn’t hurt.
