I was accepted to my surprise as I have a pretty low GPA among those who applied to engineering.

Congratulations to all the early decision admits! Cal Poly SLO is such a wonderful school! Be proud of your accomplishments! This is no small feat. And a special congratulations to all PARENTS of future Mustangs. For those of the parents who haven’t done so, once your kid has accepted and the College acknowledged, ask to join to the Cal Poly Parents page on Facebook. Good stuff there. Welcome to Poly!

does anybody know the stats if you are deferred and the likelihood of getting accepted regular?

@cherry650 May I ask what your SAT and GPA stats are? I was deferred from biology as well.

@amopajaro289186 I have a very limited knowledge of previous cal poly admittance trends but after looking through last year and this year’s threads, I recall seeing somewhere that 300 points are added to your mca score in regular decision if you applied early decision and was deferred. Do not quote me on this. Can someone confirm?

According to the PowerPoint on the MCA that I grabbed the algorithm from, CP does 2 readings. The first, filling 65% of their slots, is academic only (but I believe also includes ECs). The second includes the other adders like service area, parents’ education, etc. and a reranking. That fills the final 35% of slots. I believe ED only includes the first read ranking.

I got deferred for architecture, pretty bummed right now.

accepted early decision for kinesiology

@collegesavanna 29 ACT (English 31 Math 25) with a 4.0 gpa

@nmcua16 my friend applied under that, mind sharing stats?

I got in ED
3.88 GPA
26 ACT
Major: Political Science

Couldn’t be more excited to be spending the next four years at SLO!

@MomOD4 There was a posting about this earlier in this thread, probably in the first 10-15 pages. I think someone posted a stat saying that about 1000 of the 5000 total slots were filled with ED applicants last year. I would assume similar stats this year.

I’m sorry I made an error, my ACT was a 28.

Son was accepted ED to Ag Business.
MCA around 4300, csu GPA of 3.91
SAT 740, 600
Lots of related work and leadership, all academic bonus points allowed except, in state,

After being accepted, it says that for each term of senior year you must maintain a “3.0 GPA in your college prep coursework.” It also says you can’t get lower than a C. So is that GPA weighted?

@swimdogmom What is the exact name of the parents group? There seem to be several on FB.

@luckynachos I’m pretty sure it’s unweighted

“Cal Poly SLO Mustang Parents” on Facebook. It can be very helpful if you have a question but it has primarily become a podium for parents whining about how their student has been abused by the entire 20,000 student body, school faculty and staff. That’s a shame because before it was discovered by the pity party it was fun to read.

@slolearner I generally agree with your assessment too, but I think it has some value for parents of incoming freshmen and first-year questions. One learns to screen posts quickly.
