***cal poly slo early decision thread 2015-2016***

@usamom here’s a link to calculating he MCA score:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/1694769-confused-about-mca-score.html#latest

Doesn’t Cal Poly look at the difficulty of classes also? Why isn’t that part of the MCA score calculation?

@NJDevilsFan2012 they do sort of. For example to achieve the desired 10 semesters for math which results in a 500 point increase in the MCA calculation, one would have had to take alg, geometry, alg II, pre-calc, and AP calc. That is how they look at difficulty of classes. But, only AP/Honors matter in the GPA calculation.

Has anyone gotten the email from Cal Poly to setup their portal for early descion?

@falco88 I’m pretty sure I never got an email, so I remember having to request new information through mycalpoly and have that emailed to me.

I got my portal information in about 2 weeks or so. It takes time.

Son got his in about 2 weeks after sending his app on 10/31

@falco88 See Post #87 in this thread.

I heard that Cal Poly SLO will be accepting 5,000 more incoming freshmen than last year. Hoping that will only improve my son’s chances!

My understanding is that Cal Poly SLO plans to increase enrollment by 5000 over the next 20 years. Currently they do not have enough housing to accomodate all Freshman and Sophomores. This will not be happening this year.

Thanks for the clarification!

Does anyone know if there’s a particular order in which CP releases their admissions? By major? By last name?

In the past, they start with the School of Agriculture followed by the School of Architecture, Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts and Science/Mathematics. Also I have noticed that OOS applicants acceptance come first before in-state in the last few years.

Decisions should start coming in in about 10 days so everyone should post their decision and for what major when they get it!

along with your MCA score whether you get accepted, rejected or deferred.

@eyemgh, to help us calculate MCA scores can you fill in/list the ACT to SAT conversion that Cal Poly uses on an 800-point scale? That way, everyone who took the ACT will be using the same conversion to come up with their MCA.

ACT = SAT

I’ve been searching online trying to solve this question on my own for a while now, but unfortunately I cannot find an answer. Fellow Cal Poly experts, if my MCA score exceeds the cap of 5,000, does this mean I will simply be “tied” with all applicants exceeding the 5,000 cap? What exactly does it mean? I applied ED for bio and calculated my MCA to be approximately 5,323. (I qualified for a couple non-academic bonus point categories.) :-?
