Cal Poly SLO Early Decision

I am planning on applying to cal poly slo for biomedical engineering. Do
I have a better chance of getting accepted if I apply early decision?

Generally, yes you do. But all in all it depends on your stats. Do your Stats meet those of the Median 50% of those who were admitted?

It will depend upon your Stats. Are you applying ED because SLO is your ultimate 1st choice or because you think your chances are better or both? You should only apply ED if SLO is your first choice school and you are willing to accept any FA package they give you. If you are in need of FA, you are better off applying RD so you shop around for better FA’s. They do give you an out if financial hardship is a factor.

@Gumbymom I am planning on applying ED because SLO is my 1st choice and I would definitely go there if I get accepted and also because I think my chances would be better. Since Cal Poly is not as expensive as most colleges in California, I do not believe I will need too much FA.

@FutureDoctor2028 Yes my stats do meet those of the median 50%. I have just been hearing that Cal Poly accepts a lower percentage of ED applicants than RD applicants. Have you heard anything about this or know if it is true?

Great question—following this. My son might apply ED next year for Fall of 2016. If he does it is because it is his first choice. He will attend EPIC this Summer and so we will see if it remains his first choice and which type of engineering interests him most. Their business school is also on his mind—

I am attending EPIC this summer as well so I will also be deciding whether or not I would for sure apply ED to Cal Poly. @MomOD4

Here are the Preliminary Freshman Profile stats for 2015. See how your stats compare to the average for the College of Engineering or Business.

@jordan816 That is exciting. Will you attend Session #3 for upcoming Seniors? You might meet my son!

@MomOD4 Yes, I will be!

@jordan816 NEAT! Maybe you’ll end up meeting my son there!

My son asked for a social roommate and had a great time choosing his track. So many fantastic projects. I think he might end up surprised at which type of engineering he favors by the end.

Best of luck to you!!! We are afraid to favor Cal Poly SLO for college because it just seems so hard to be accepted, even if your app is perfect. We’ll see. Lucky to go to the camp, that is for sure!

Thank you so much! Good luck to your son too!! @MomOD4
