Cal Poly SLO Fall 2022 Admissions - Class of 2026

I thought the switch was already a done deal with the plan to switch in a couple of years already agreed to. Is that not the case?

Well, the linked article states they are still finalizing the plans and the earliest would be 2025-2026 school year so is it a done deal? This article says yes:

SLO is such an elite level school now and it either needs to have its own UC-like app portal or the custom portion of the calstate app needs to be changed significantly. The more competitive the school, the more data points you want to include so you can separate students more easily. The use of CSU capped GPA is limiting to begin with even if they consider 9th grade unlike the other CSUs.

I donā€™t disagree with you, especially about the ā€œelite levelā€ part of it.

But, having said that, Cal and UCLA donā€™t have a separate app or separate section in the UC app. Of course, they (the UCā€™s) have essays, but thatā€™s not the point. The CSU system is forcing SLO into compliance and conformity, just like forcing them into using a semester system. Theyā€™re governed by the CSU system.

Completely agree with @sushiritto that Cal Poly SLO has to comply with the CSU system policies. Just because you or I or anyone else thinks that SLO should have their own application does not make it so.

SLO is a great school but there still majors that have over a 90% acceptance rate so I would not classify the school as ā€œeliteā€. Yes, many majors are a difficult admits which on par with acceptance rate of some the elite colleges.

Now back to the point of the discussion thread, questions posed for the Class of 2026 applicants.

Oh I get that but its clear at least for the most impacted majors, there is a need for a more nuanced process. I am sure at some point in the future, the changes will be forced on them. Even now I presume there is a more dynamic selection process in use but with the added disadvantage of a lack of transparency. No surprise the MCA calculator disappeared from the SLO site.

Well, if semesters go into affect 2025-2026 at the earliest, I hope it takes them a little longer.

Gumbymom - do you think these are high stat early admits?

Congratulations. Can you post your stats?

No AP courses in school. Took Calc AB & BC and Physics 1 and Physics C (Mech) exams. 5 in BC & Physics C and 4 in the others. ISEF applicant. Missed qualifying for ISEF - awards at the national level. Aero + Math focussed leadership & ECs.

Letter Grade Percent Grade 4.0 Scale
A 93-96 4.0
A- 90-92 3.7
B+ 87-89 3.3
B 83-86 3.0

Fyi only. No need to report GPA for international students

In the past, SLO has admitted International students or domestic students attending International schools early in December/January.

@USAer0 Also, you can report +/- for grades on the CSU application, but +/- are not used for the GPA calculation so an A- or A+ is an A= 4.0.

As an International HS applicant, there is no reason to convert grades. Admissions is well aware of the different grading scales.

Cal Poly said not to include test scores, or AP test scores with admissions. The latter would only (possibly ) be used for class placement once admitted, not for admission purposes. % on classes donā€™t really matter, just GPA.

@USAer0 is a student applying from an Indian HS which uses % as their grading system. You are correct that AP scores and SAT/ACT scores are not used in the admission decisions but applicants can report them on the application.

Yes you can report your international grading system on your application. CSUā€™s know how to interpret or convert them to gpa.
