Cal Poly SLO out of state applicants

If I’m coming from the east coast, and my stats seem to match up, how much will being out of state affect my chances of getting in?

Out of state applicants are in a different admission pool than in-state applicants and there are less applicants from OOS so your chances are usually higher for an acceptance.

That said, make sure that Cal Poly SLO is affordable at full fees since OOS students get little to no financial aid.

Cost of attendance for an OOS student currently is around $43K/year.

I’m a big fan of SLO, but can’t for the life of me understand why anyone would pay OOS fees to attend it. (unless your family was moving to CA in the next year or two)

@bluebayou: Because it’s much cheaper than full-pay at a private and, depending on the state you live in, better than any in-state option you have?

BTW, CalPoly SLO OOS is only slightly more expensive than in-state tuition at the most expensive publics like PSU and UIUC Engineering.
