My situation is rather messy right now. I’m currently a freshman at UCSD, but I have already changed my mind about my major. (Right now, I’m majoring in molecular biology at UCSD.) I would like to study animal science, but UCSD does not offer that course. I’ve been examining the differences between the UC system and the CSU system. From what I have gathered, it seems that the CSU system would be a bit more practical than the theory-orientated UC system.

I’ve e-mailed Cal Poly already, to see if there’s any way that I can apply as a freshman after I’ve completed one year at UCSD and have my courses transfer over. However, I haven’t received a response yet. If anyone has any information on whether or not that would be possible, I’d appreciate it. It seems very difficult to transfer as a junior to Cal Poly, because they do require extracurricular activities related to one’s intended major. My high school GPA was a 3.9, and I scored a 2240 on the SATs. To transfer to UC Davis, on the other hand… One would be able to transfer with sophomore status.

I’d actually like to know some differences between Cal Poly’s animal science program and UC Davis’s animal science program. It seems as though Cal Poly offers more opportunities to undergraduate students to participate in hands-on learning. However, I haven’t really gathered too much information on UC Davis’s animal science program. Most of what I have read and heard is about Cal Poly SLO. Would one be better over the other? Or should I stick it out at UCSD and just switch my major to general biology?

Thanks!
