MCA points for SLO: 4210/5000 with the 26 score; 4282/5000 with 28 score
What are my chances with these stats? I am also retaking the ACT in September and I hope to get at least a 29+.
Cal Poly SLO is my top choice so I will be applying ED; I’m not sure of the major yet but it will either be under the Business College, the Agriculture, Food & Env. Sciences College, or the Liberal Arts College.
Thanks. @Gumbymom Do you have any idea where I can find the average MCA points that people got in with for each college or does it not exist? And if I raised my ACT to above 29+ how much would that improve my chances for the Business College?
I have never seen any published MCA scores for admitted students. A list probably exists somewhere but is never published. My understanding has been that an MCA score of 4500+ is good. Raising your ACT score would help but your CP GPA is also on the low side for the Business College. Average CP GPA was 3.99 and ACT was 30.
Like I stated above, your best chance would be in the School of Agriculture and Environmental sciences where average CP GPA was 3.87 and ACT was 28.
If SLO is your #1 choice, then you should consider applying Early Decision. My niece was accepted into the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Science with a CP GPA of 3.45 and ACT of 30 using ED.
I know that Cal Poly places a higher emphasis on your ACT score. Try to get at least a 30…it’s becoming very competitive to get in recently. My dad is a professor at Cal Poly SLO actually
Alright thanks for the input everyone. Also, any of ya’ll know if it is 100% true that Cal Poly only considers the Math and English sections on the ACT? I’ve seen a lot of info that seems like that is the case.
Great thread - thank you to all. I’m a new CC user and have been searching without success to determine if Cal SLO publishes SAT 25-75th percentiles by either major (e.g., Computer Science) or college (Engineering and CS)? I found the university-wide SAT 25-75th percentiles as well as the average SAT score by college – but not the 25-75 range.
I am not aware of any school breaking out the SAT percentiles by major. All I can tell you is that CS/BME and ME are the most competitive majors with acceptance rates less than <15% with Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering having the highest acceptance rate of greater than 85%. Also I have noticed that admitted OOS students have a lower CP GPA and SAT/ACT threshold for Engineering than in-state students. This is purely based upon the stats posted on the decision threads for SLO’s in-coming Freshman class these past 3 years, so take it for what it is worth.
