Cal Reception

Is anyone going to the cal reception on june 2 or june 3? My parents got an invitation to it yesterday and I asked my friends if they got it too, but none of them did...

your parents got an invitation, did you get one too? haha. i am going to the luncheon tomorrow. free food, why not? but i am already dreading it for some reason—well, you know speeeeeeches that last forever, right? maybe i will sit close to the exit.

lol well the invitation was addressed to my parents but it said to bring your cal student. It’s at someone’s house. I don’t understand why no one else who goes to my high school got the invitation?

Are you a minority? That may be it…

oh yeah, what is with the racial profiling at these schools? i mean seriously, it is racist.

and what, your parents were invited to a party and it said bring your “cal student” like you are a house pet? haha. that is hilarious. i get crazy stuff too.

oh well, i am SO happy we were accepted. i was looking at the catalog all day and there are so many fantastic classes! can’t believe i survived all those years at a CCC. good luck dudes!

im asian but we arent exactly the minority at cal hahaha

Im so confused with this reception thing. LOL.

just let your parents go without you. haha.

i just got back from the lunch and transfer welcome deal today. the campus is great. the people are great. it is a fantastic school. good luck dudes!

I was there too. But I didn’t see any lunch :/

the lunch started at 11:00 in another building. what about the 90 year old transfer student?! he/she was not there, but i can’t wait to meet them. someone older than me. did you get a free poster? the dude rolled up two instead of one for me. i got a button too. then i went home.

but first i made friends with a CalSO counselor. duh, that is such a drag that we have to go through all that to register for classes. such a cool school. it is going to be really fun attending classes there. not sure what to do about parking though. street parking might be an option?

hey, we get into the Museum (BAM) free with a guest by the way with our student ID cards.

I flew in from SoCal earlier today so I wasn’t familiar with the place. Cool, yeah I got a poster and a button too. Also bought my Berkeley sweatshirt since they only have UCLA and USC.

Which CalSo are you attending?

@karmago
cool. welcome to northern cal. i am attending the june 7 CalSO, you too? have you SIRed yet? or are you considering UCLA and USC? it was really great to hear all the california cheers in the audience today. heartwarming. everyone was so happy.

i was most impressed by my fellow students. everyone was really cool and intelligent. and relaxed, like most smart folk. that works for me. i know i will be happy there.

wait why do some people get invited to different receptions?

@iwantan800

These invitations are extended to you through the myBerkeley portal under the “my events” tab. All you have to do is RSVP and you get to go.

I got into UCLA as well, but I was dead set on attending Cal from the beginning so I immediately SIR’ed. And I dislike USC for personal reasons lol. I am deciding whether to attend the June 7th CalSo or the one on the 13th. My last class ends on the 6th so I have to fly in right afterwards to do the overnight thing so I’m leaning more towards the 13th to give me some leeway. Just hope that I get into the classes I want.

Hey quick question. You said something about an ID card. Can you get yours made already? And if so, how?

@karmago
just come on the 7th and try and sign up as early as you possibly can. any fatigue you might feel will be worth it because waiting could mean that you miss a class that you want to take, maybe not, but maybe yes. why risk it? i can get my ID card because i am enrolled in summer courses already. not sure if you guys can get yours now, if you are not attending summer classes. just ask when you come up for CalSO. i have to say that the students really do make a school. and the students at Cal are really fantastic. diverse and smart and unusual. everyone was unique and kind. i was so impressed! no “extreme” macho behavior, even the jocks were totally mellow. we are so lucky.
