Hello,
I'm a freshman at Cal Poly Pomona now as a communication major
and I'm wondering if I should transfer over to Cal State Fullerton...
I feel like whenever I ask people that, they always say "why?"
which isn't much of an answer
So...Well why not?
Feedback will be much appreciated :)

I think the reason people ask you "Why?" is because Cal Poly Pomona is a more highly regarded school than CSF. So without an actual reason like "X program is stronger at Fullerton." or "I really want to be closer to my ailing grandma."

Are you unhappy at Cal Poly or do you just think the grass will be greener somewhere else? If you have reasons to choose Fullerton than go for it but no casual observer can tell you that your should leave one of the most highly regarded CSU campuses for one of lesser reputation.

Agree with historymom, Cal Poly Pomona > CSU Fullerton...so, why?

I'm thinking you have Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona mixed up. I believe Fullerton and Pomona have about the same level of campus reputation.

But I agree that you still want a better reason to move than "why not" or you'll be hopping campuses forever.

Nah, Cal Poly SLO > Cal Poly Pomona
Cal Poly Pomona >= CSU Fullerton

sorry I should have been more clear
Well, when I said why not, I didn't mean for it to sound like I just wanted to transfer with no reason. I wanted you guys to tell me why or why I shouldn't transfer.

My reasons for looking into the transfer is because I'm a PR major under comm, and I hear CSF is pretty good for that. And I know Cal Poly is ranked higher and all, but that's mostly for the Engineering and Agricultural departments, not communication.
And aside from the governments budget cuts on the schools, I know for a fact that we, at Cal Poly have a big money issue right now from I believe the science departments overspending; so starting next quarter a lot of classes and teachers are going to be cut. (so I hear)
But ultimately I just want to know which school has the better PR program. CSUF or CSUPomona

UCDAlum, I am not confused at all. Both Cal Poly Campuses are highly regarded in the CSU system. FWIW US News has them as the top two CSUs. SLO is ranked #10 , Pomona is ranked #31 Fullerton is ranked #37 among Western Masters Universities.

OP, if you have a program need not being met at Cal Poly which can be better met as CSF you should transfer. You might wait it out another year though and transfer after your sophomore year since much of what you seem to be basing your choice on is what you "hear" not what you know. You may want to look into talking to an advisor at Cal Poly now to verify some of what you have heard. Good Luck!

Just looking at common data sets, Cal Poly Pomona Sat 25/75 is something like 880/1130 (only math and eng, not writing) and they accept 70% of those that apply. While Cal Poly SLO is about 1090/1280 and accepts 39%. For that matter, I thought SDSU was closer to SLO on those kind of numbers. I didn't realize everyone else was way behind that. (I couldn't find the CSUFullerton common data sets.)

thanks everyone for their feedbacks, especially historymom.
i'm definitely going into talk to an advisor real soon.
thanks again!
