Cal State Fullerton vs Cal State Northridge

Can someone describe how both of these schools are in detail please?

Things im looking for other than general education quality

  • Social Life
  • Dorm Life
  • The People / Classrooms
  • Surrounding City / City Life (Very Important)
  • Campus Quality
  • Technology

Both are the same environment, really. Limited social aspects due to large commuter student population. Both are in suburbs of Los Angeles. I’m more familiar with Northridge…the campus is nice and modern with new dorms and new, state-of-the -art fitness center.

What is your intended major? Northridge has better connections with Hollywood/entertainment industries. Both have good business programs.

First, take a tour of both places, paying special attention to the dorms, and surrounding community.

I’ve been to the CSU Fullerton campus many times, and two of my good friends go there. Never been to CSUN so can’t really comment on it.

Fullerton is a heavy commuter school but a substantial percent of the student body lives on or near enough to campus so that it’s not completely dead on the weekends. The few parties I’ve been to were mostly smaller Greek ones or in the University House apartments and they were pretty standard college affairs. Though from what my friends and their friends have told me, I came on days when the campus scene was unusually active.

The CSUF dorms are horribly overpriced for what students get. Cramped triples are incredibly common and the one that I regularly go to is smaller than my own room in my apartment. However, there seems to be a solid community within dorm life, and one that is arguably stronger than that of many more residential schools.

The people: I’ve only spoken to about 10 students in depth regarding their experience at CSUF. The students generally seem less political than those at UCI (I used to work there, so I use that as my base of comparison), and all of the students I spoke to appreciate the diversity on campus. Can’t really comment about much else.

Classrooms: just look at them when you take your tour. Wander off after to see some empty rooms, and see what they look like. IMO the only time classroom quality truly matters is for lab based or practical courses (think organic chemistry and film production). A lecture on marketing can be taught just as effectively in a class with a chalkboard, projector, and desks as one crammed with the latest gadgets.

Campus Quality: certainly not the most aesthetically pleasing campus I’ve been to although there are a few nice spots. Nothing is falling apart.

Technology: Can’t say. I’ve only used their wifi network during non peak hours and it was fine.

Did you get accepted to CSUF? I applied there too, but I still haven’t received a reply from them…
