According to www.collegeboard.com, this is true.I thought that the 38% at Cal Poly SLO was kinda too selective, but 17 is just way too weird!!! Does anyone know why??? And I thought Cal States were easy to get into

theres no way thats true. pomona is not hard to get into. SLO is the most selective state school. i dont know this for a fact, but it seems to me that collegeboard.com probably only lists the students who actually enroll at a school...for example, out of the applicants that pomona accepts, only a tiny portion is actually going to enroll. that small portion of students is the number that collegeboard.com reports, making the acceptance rate appear a lot lower than it actually is. i dont know if this theory makes sense so ill stop now

Maybe they listed the wrong "Pomona".

It's probably Pomona college of the Claremont colleges, not CSU Pomona.

In fall 2004, 22,585 students applied for admission to Cal Poly Pomona and 11,758 were admitted.

This is a rate of 52.1 percent.

Of those admitted, 4,765 enrolled, which is a rate of 40.5 percent.

taken from cal poly pomona's site... so the acceptance rate is 52.1%, not 17% (collegeboard is mistaken... usually collegeboard statistics are outdated as well)

even if you divided the number of enrolled by the number of students applied (a common mathematical error of many students when calculating "admit" percentage), you still get about 20% LOL.

in reality, cal poly pomona for the most part is no different than cal state fullerton or any of the other "regular" cal states when it comes to selectivity for admissions.

haha i saw that too. odd

HAHAHAHAHAHA CAl State Pomona with 17 percent acceptance rate. GOOD ONE MAN

you state that cal poly pomona is more like cal state fullerton than cal poly san luis. based on what?

i have been at both cal polys as well as fullerton. the only significant difference in academic programs between the two cal poly campuses is the collins school of hospitality management on the pomona campus, which coincidentally is ranked second in the nation behind cornell university of the ivy league.

comparing CPP to fullerton is like comparing UCLA to UCRiverside. they simply are in the same system with considerably different academic programs. have you examined fullerton in engineering or agriculture or architecture just for openers? go take a look.

puleeeze!

i would advise you to look at the quality of the student body. they're not much different. perhaps only in those specialized majors that you mentioned.

i have a friend who's in hospitality management at cal poly pomona, and its a great program. but cornell was definately out of her league.

btw drj, i was talking only about selectivity.

"cal poly pomona for the most part is no different than cal state fullerton or any of the other "regular" cal states when it comes to selectivity for admissions."

what you need to do is to measure the quantity and size of impacted majors across the CSU. SLO, pomona, chico and long beach have the highest number of majors that are impacted which triggers tougher admission standards. fullerton is in the next group. at the bottom of the CSU are schools where you can get into almost any major. then you're dealing with facts rather than opinions.

perhaps we might be able to agree that #41 isnt so far away from #35. i do think cal poly pomona is better than fullerton, but not at the same level as san luis obispo is compared to any other cal state.

*edit: i think that link is for undergrad for schools that only go up to master's. could someone clarify this for me?

we received a letter from Cal Poly Pomona and the acceptance rate for architecture for the fall-09 is 5.8% - ?? are they reducing the number of incoming students?
5.8% is highly selective.

That sounds about right. Architecture is highly competitive. I heard at Cal Poly SLO, they only accepted like 70 people or so.

thanks koreanboi, I didn't know the acceptance rate was so low.

no prob. I've been on SLO's forum this past month for admission results. lol.

Architecture is very competitive but you still can't find job after graduation. My nephew had to switch to Civil Engineering to get work.

that's the most selective major for both cal poly campuses, always around five per cent of those who apply.

drj, I didn't know this aobut cal poly. I kind of new something about SLO but not Pomona. So every year is about 5% acceptance rate? that is highly selective. Why they don't inform about this on their web site?
Columbia_student, things don't make sense now days. hope your nephew enjoys civil eng.
