The D of a friend has been admitted to Fullerton, San Marcos, Channel Islands and Dominguez Hills. She could commute to Dominguez and maybe Fullerton but she doesn't yet have a drivers license. She is extremely shy. I don't know what kind of a student she is. I would assume she is well behaved and blends into the woodwork.
I am assuming that all these campuses have mainly commuter students. Anyone have any feedback on living on campus at any of these schools. I think her interest is elementary education.

While I’m sure it has a lot of commuter students, CSU-San Marcos has dorms on-campus. They’re pretty new as well.

I don’t think you can live at Dominguez. Fullerton has reasonably nice dorms in a nice area.

At Dominquez she would live at home.
How would you rank them academically?

Well, here are their rankings from USNWR (Western Regional Schools)
Fullerton: #33
San Marcos: #76
Channel Islands: #76
Dominguez Hills: rank not published

Not sure that means a lot.

My son is a sophomore at Channel Islands and really loves it. We live 5-6 hours away. He has come home at major vacations (Thanksgiving, Xmas, spring break) and basically one other time each semester. There is definitely a group that leaves, but that is changing. Right now they have one campus dorm and one campus apartment. They are building a new dorm because they are getting more students. The area is nice, being close to the beach. The school and dorms do a lot of events for the students to go to. One cool thing is that because they are near the ocean they have opportunities to learn to sail through the rec association. Once you’re certified, they have sailboats, kayaks, etc to borrow (for free). DS wanted a Disneyland annual pass for Xmas, because he goes with friends once or twice a month.

DS was very quiet and shy when he was in HS and has blossomed amazingly there.

We didn’t check out the other schools listed, but he applied and was accepted at 2 OSS schools and 4 other CSU’s and chose Channel Islands.

HTH.

A lot of the teachers in our school district graduated from San Marcos. Well thought of in our area…

I know many students at CSUCI. It is a small, intimate school with wonderful teachers. One of my friends has 2 children with social/emotional issues who attended and thrived in the caring environment.
