I dropped my microecon class in early April, notified Cal via fax but never got a response. I'm accepted April 30 and view my Terms of Admission contract which states I must complete this class or be rescinded. I email my admissions officer and I get an automated reply stating that she will be out of the office until May 8. I am redirected to an emergency address with an alternate admissions officer and I send my message there. I get a response quickly that says the 'W' should not be an issue in my admission. But my contract as of today still states that I must complete microecon. My admissions officer who I originally contacted has yet to respond to my message. I cannot accept my contract in its current state as I cannot complete the class I withdrew from. I'm a Philosophy major with pre-reqs, IGETC, and exactly 60 units completed without this class.

Should I contact my admissions officer again?

You should have called to confirm they got the fax.

You’re a philosophy major and need Economics? o__O;; Are you sure the contract didn’t just say: “complete all your Spring semester classes with a C or better” and “report any withdrawals, D’s or F’s grades immediately”?

If that’s the case, then I suppose you shouldn’t worry.

I took Econ for the sake of learning. I received an ‘A’ in macro but found micro much more difficult and uninteresting(teacher’s a bit of a hardass).

The contract lists each course that made up my spring schedule.

Well if your contract states that microecon must be completed. Then yes, I’m really sure you’ll be rescinded due to the fact you didn’t fulfill the contract. Taking the course in the summer won’t be allowed either if you though of that.

There must be a way they can change the contract. This class has no bearing on my major and had I not even enrolled in it and kept my current schedule the same, there would be no issue. I informed them immediately after dropping and have contacted their admissions offices several times. It doesn’t seem fair that I should be rescinded for such an inconsequential class, especially given the fact that I took the initiative to inform Cal. I’m contacting my admissions officer ASAP.

Sucks to hear all this stuff. There have been couple of posts about others like yourself getting transferitis and not complying with the contract. You guys have to realize that you made it this far for a second chance and you guys have to fulfill it all the way.

Microecon may not be affiliated to your major but a contract is a contract. I’m very sure that they will not change their contract and you have a great possibility of being rescinded. It’s worth a shot at trying to convince them though. But the question will arise where they’ll ask you why you dropped the course rather than sticking through it.

This was not a case of “transferitis” or laziness. The class simply proved too difficult given my other courses. I did what people on these forums told me to do: I contacted Cal. I did it before being admitted to avoid this type of anxiety. Why didn’t they listen?

Why would I be punished when I notified Cal weeks prior to being admitted about the ‘W’? I fail to see their logic. No doubt they would find a way to blame me entirely for this mishap.

For the record, I also contacted UCLA about the ‘W’ at the same time and they, like Cal, did not respond either. My contract with them has nothing about completing this class. I REALLY do not want to go to UCLA…

Remember that admissions is bombarded with questions and concerns from thousands of students around this time of the year. Your best bet would be to email your admissions officer and call him/her. It may take a while so keep trying.

i had a similar issue… as long as the class does not interfere with your major requirements and university requirements, the contract will be adjusted… mine was.

keep calm when talking to admissions and don’t worry!

look its not that big of a problem I got nearly my whole contract changed heh.
I put all these random science courses down. Bio, Chem, Anthro and American Lit I. None of them were for my major, and I ended up picking up some philosophy, and two poli sci courses and didnt sign up for that american Lit. After I got admitted i called my admissions officer who is the nicest lady inthe wooorld. She said, yeah no its ok and she took them all off immediately and now I only have to complete 2 courses on my contract. She looks that 1) you finish igetc. 2) that you stay above 60 units 3) it doesnt impact your major 4) that I was sure about dropping the classes and getting a W for one poli class. yeeeah. I know i sound like i have transferitis… but its not. I am working MWFS to earn money to go to my top choice. but I needed to have berkeley as a backup if finances dont work out. She even said “work hard this summer and earn big bucks!”

is your admissions officer, Evelyn? Cuz i’ve been trying to email her as well to change my conditions of admission…and I’m waiting for her to change that before I submit my SIR…so hopefully she responds soon…

Yes it’s Evelyn. I emailed her again last night. I sure hope she responds soon. The earlier posts in this thread were making me s*** bricks. Cal has been my top choice for over two years and it would be tragic for it to end this way.

I hope you get a response soon, but I don’t think you’ll be rescinded if the class doesn’t in any way affect your IGETC or major requirements or your 60 unit count. The things is, while it is specific to each student, I’m almost positive that the admissions contract just generates a list of your spring semester courses and tells everyone that they must complete everything. Unless the class was a decisive factor is your admission (which I seriously doubt it was), you shouldn’t have a problem.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation. It seems like the problem is your admission officer, given the fact that you have tried numerous times to try and contact her with your changing academic situation. Fortunately for me, I have not dealt with such issues with my admission officer, and so my only advice to you is to keep calling. Good luck.

I had a similar issue with my admissions contract at UCD and got it resolved, however my admissions contract stayed the same on the my admissions page. I asked my admissions rep why it did not change, and she said it was noted on my file.

Just ask your rep if it is noted on your file, I doubt they will change your my admissions page.
