CalArts hopefuls

I just received my FA letter (via email) from Calarts. I see about 50,000 reasons to choose UCLA over Calarts......................

haha. nice joke.

but seriously, emburst, are u not getting any financial aid?

.... could you give some reasons why you prefer UCLA animation over CalArts?

I'm just asking because from the demo reels I've seen I don't think UCLA is better than CalArts.

The only way I can see UCLA being preferred over CalArts is either you're not getting financial aid or... I'm guessing it might be because you're in CalArt's experimental animation which is different than it's character animation program. Although it's difficult to get in to CalArts either way, experimental animation is a lot different than what most people would think. It's more well... experimental and I guess the word would be "artsy" where as character animation is more storytelling and acting.

Emburst --

Yeah, I feel you. I just received my Financial Aid offer from CalArts and WOW. I'm stunned.

Oh well. I still intend to go, but boy is it gonna be tough.

They're giving me a LITTLE money, but the majority will have to be loans. I don't know if I'm willing to take on that much debt. Need to think this over a bit.

Calarts is probably more prestigious/well-regarded but UCLA ain't bad either, many of the faculty work in the industry. But really, it's about the money ULCA is way cheaper especially if you're a CA resident.

And I still haven't heard from UCLA......

my son is interested in cal arts for either character or experimental animation. he graduates next year (2010). would you be able to provide any suggestions/recommendations for what he should put in his portfolio to help his chances.
thanks!!

byznme- try [Animatedbuzz Forums :: Index](http://animatedbuzz.com/forum) it’s geared towards animation at calarts.

are there any students who were accpeted into the Bf Theatre program? I’d love to hear about your audition experience. Please!

My daughter was accepted into the CalArts BFA Dance program for Fall 2011. She is so excited, as it was her number one choice out of the 12 colleges she applied to. Haven’t made a final decision yet, though, still waiting to get the financial aid from all her accepted colleges.
