CalArts waitlist?

Hey guys! Got a letter from CalArts today that I was sure would be my rejection letter because I knew that the acceptance letters arrived last week. My letter states that I was put on "the short wait list for the Fall 2011 incoming class". So cool, I'm totally not rejected. I felt pretty good about my audition- I did both pieces, an exercise, had a great interview, received a card, and got a one on one tour of the school afterwards. A couple questions..

Has anyone else gotten this "short wait list" letter? Is there a longer waiting list that I don't know about?

Does anyone know how many acceptance letters are sent initially? I am assuming that they would only send 36 letters for the 36 spots in the program, but I guess there could be more than that.

If anyone has any other input on my chances here, I'd love to hear.

Still waiting to hear from USC, BU, and NYU....fingers crossed!

I’m not sure if you were still interested in an answer to this question, but my D visited CalArts about a week ago and as of that day, 15 people were on the “short waitlist.” I’m assuming that was based upon the replies received as of that date. She didn’t say how many people were offered a spot on the “short wait list.” Best of luck!!!

I actually got the same letter from CalArts about the waiting list for their experimental animation program. I did however get into RISD, PRATT, and SCAD (No surprise on the last one). In a couple of weeks I’m visiting RISD and PRATT because I’m over on the west coast, Calarts is still my number one if I can get a spot, but with this new chip on my shoulder about not getting in I’ve been creating better work than ever to prove myself to the world.

I haven’t heard anything from them yet. Does that mean I am rejected? I am applying for Directing MFA. No interviews or anything. Good Luck to you all!
