Calc grades and a pattern

With prequesites in my school, even the most advanced students cannot take AP Calc until senior year.

When did you do Algebra I, II, Geometry, and Trig? Three of those before high school? I only did Alegbra I, in 8th grade.

You can take Calculus as a sophomore. I could have. Finishing Geometry in 8th grade is not unheard of, and you can then take Algebra II and Pre-calc as a freshman.

Yeah, though most of the kids I've noticed who are doing poorly are just being lazy.

Calc brought up my grade ;P I made a 99 on the exam while the next highest grade was failing- I think a 61. I don't think I've ever studied for a test or taken notes. The other people in the class, though mostly lazy, are just unable to understand the topics quickly. I remember it took a couple days for the other kids in the class to understand the concept of a limit.. and even then it took a cartoon to show them :/ By the way.. what is AP Stats? (like topics covered and some sample problems)

ha I'm doing terrible in calc and really should have taken a different math but none are offered at my school

I had a C for calc at midterm, but i pulled it up to an A by final, and the final is the only mark shown on my transcript :)

I had no problem taking AP Calculus as a senior, and I'm definitely not gonna be a math major in college. I had a great teacher, though. That may be the problem for some people; the high school teachers aren't as good at teaching the material, because it's really the first foray from basic math. The concepts aren't as easy and simple as, say, the stuff you learn in Algebra II.

My AP Calculus class was mostly seniors with one junior and a sophomore. It's practically impossible to take the class as anything other than a senior; you either have to double up on math or start knocking down the prerequisites during middle school. And, at least where I live, taking Geometry in middle school is impossible.

in my calc class, if we get a 4 or 5 on the AP, our teacher will change our semester grades to A's, which is helpful for the Juniors in the class, but if you're a senior and aren't doing well at the semester, it doesn't really help for college aps. but he still changes the seniors' grades (and everyone who does well on the AP) in like july

I always saw myself as more of a Calc person rather than a Stats person, and I always figured it would look better to have two years of Calc than a year of Stats and a year of Calc.. so I took Calc AB junior year and BC this year. I'm struggling much more in BC, but mostly everyone in there really wants to take it and excel in it, so there's a lot of A's.. in comparison to AB where a C was the average grade and most people opted to take Stats for senior year after their Calc experiences.

My son went to an info session at CMC. The Admissions Rep talked about course rigor and very, very specifically mentioned that he/they consider AP Calc to be a better indicator of rigor than AP Stats. So, my son asked his GC to change his course registration from regular Calc to AP BC Calc. I'm just reporting - not saying this is good advice.
