Alright guys, which calculator do you recommend? I'll be in Algebra 2 this yr & pre-cal next year. Any advice, which to buy, which to avoid, would be appreciated. I know Texas Instruments is a good brand, but I have no idea which model is the one I'd need. Feel free to throw out other brand ideas 'cause I'm open to just about anything.

TI-83+ or TI-84+ are good calculators to use.

TI-84 Plus, you can play games on it:)
Same function as TI 83 though. Anything else is overkill and not allowed on ACT, etc.

TI-84 should last you through those courses without a hitch. Heck even the ti-83 will do it just get the one thats a better bargain that you can find.

just get an 89, it is like insurance on tests.

I don't think you can use 89's on standardized tests..

I recommend the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition...Guaranteed A in math/chem/physics

TI-84+ Silver Edition is the best calculator because it can be used on any test. Teachers don't let TI-89 kids use their calcs on calc tests as well as any standardized tests.

Can't you use an 89 on the SAT II math?

The three main contenders here are the 89 titanium, the 86 and the 84 plus.
If the 89 is allowed by your teachers, and I doubt it will be, its the best. Also, consider the act- you can't use it there.
If you are willing to sacrifice a decent bit of funcitonality (linear systems solving, polynomial=0 solving, better equation solver) for ease of use, go with the 84+. If you're pretty good with tech. stuff, go 86, I love mine. The teacher wont' be able to help you use it, and theres an extreeeeeeeemly small chance you won't be alloowed to use it (all of mine are fine with it, I'm in analysis).

i have the 84+. its excellent. even though i'm probably not going to use half the functions on there.

I'd go with the cheapest possible (I believe that's the 83+). Honestly, I just don't see the appeal of getting the newer versions with more functions that aren't necessary. I realize they can help you on tests, but I'd rather do the math (no matter how mundane) than shell out up to $60 more for a newer version. The only pro of newer versions is that they can save you some time on tests, but unless you have problems with time limits, I'd go with the 83+ (or 83 if possible).

ti 84+ will work just fine!! I used it last year for alg 2, but this year I bought an 89 && I lovee it...Go with what you think is best!!

I have an 83+ Silver, but I fully recommend the TI-89 Platinum. I know it is allowed on the Calc AP Test, and if it isn't allowed on another test, you can always use an 83+ from your school. I suggest getting an 89, they really can do a lot of cool stuff.
