Is it neccessary to have a graphing calculator for college. Right now I'm in highschool and I just borrow a calc from the school each year because of money issues. Is it really neccessary for college for a econ or business major. Also don't we bring laptops to college neways.

econ is very math-heavy. you'll be glad you have a graphing calculator. plus, you'll have to take stats for business, which basically requires a graphing calculator.

Yea, you'll need one. Try looking at ebay, you can get a TI-89 for a pretty good price.

Although you might be able to squeek by with a scientific calculator if you aren't going to be taking a lot of math & science courses...
I would highly highly highly recommend you get one, even if it's used. The TI-89 is wonderful (does integrals, 3D graphs, derivatives, etc). TI-83 is decent, but I like the 89 way better. I'm more prone to mistakes on a scientific calculator because you have to do each calculation in more steps.

IMO HP makes the best graphing calculators.

Edit:
They even have really affordable ones.

ooh thanks for input, so you guys suggest i get a TI 89 for college.

TI89 was my math bible. <3

Reverse Polish notation is awesome.

ooo, also I'm going to be a high school senior next yr taking AP Calc. Do they allow TI0-89's and is buying a used one from amazon a good idea.

Unless you're in higher-level math and science classes, no. None of my basic core classes (pre-calc, chem fundamentals, etc) even allowed anything but a standard scientific calculator to be used.

Yeah you're definitely gonna need one. I already need one in high school.

thanks

In some classes, you aren't even allowed to use any calculator.
