By some miracle I was accepted into Calhoun after receiving an email this afternoon. Everyone check your inboxes!

My stats were significantly lower than the averages listed on the website, can anyone tell me if those averages really hold true? Will I struggle in class if I'm a little behind the pack?

Also, is there any way to receive more scholarship money with a Calhoun acceptance?
I was awarded the 10K annual merit scholarship in December, but that simply won't foot the out of state bill.

The great thing about college is that everybody starts off on the same level again. Some people struggled in high school but managed to turn it around in college. Definitely take advantage of getting into Calhoun and try your best! I don’t think you’ll struggle in class if you do that. In almost all of my classes you are not graded against your peers but the quality of the work that you do.

I have no idea what the deal with scholarship money is. You could ask financial aid.

Congrats ctate94! The Calhoun honors programs offers a lot of nice perks and I wouldn’t worry about being behind the pack. The fact that you’ll have preferential course registration and access to smaller class sizes are a plus.
As I’ve mentioned prior, my son received significant scholarships after the initial offering so I know that at least in prior years, the total financial aid package wasn’t final until the summer. (My guess is that they can’t distribute all available funds until they determine who is matriculating with what scholarships.) Additional scholarships/grants were also awarded in subsequent years (some involved specific programs/applications) so there is opportunity for money down the road, as well.
Good luck!

Tiger- when did you hear about the extra merit money? I assume the various scholarships didn’t come all at once, but when did the bulk of it get announced?

As I recall, it was at some point during the summer (sorry I can’t be more specific!) and then subsequently applied prior to each semester’s tuition bill. Importantly, there are scholarship opportunities every semester for both merit and need.

If you missed the deadline for Calhoun application, can you apply your freshman year? Is additional merit aid available to you at that time, as others have mentioned they received as an incoming freshman? Thanks

You can still apply for Calhoun. You missed the priority deadline but the final deadline is March 1st. You can apply after each semester if you have at least a 3.5 GPA (sure you’d need to do better than that to get in)

Hey cstate94
do you mind if I ask what your stats were?
I didn’t start the Honors college app, because I knew I needed my CUID in order to complete it, so I wanted to wait for acceptance letter to arrive because I wasn’t even sure I would get it (Though in hindsight, that was a HORRIBLE idea) Anyway, I didn’t think I should even bother trying for the honors college because my stats aren’t up to their requirements
do you mind letting me know yours and when you applied?
Thanks sooo much :)

@ sorahdaae - my SAT score was 2130, 1380 M+CR, and I’m in the top 6% of my class. Calhoun averages are +1400 M+CR, and students in the top 3% of the class. I have a 4.6 weighted GPA though, standout ECs and good essays. I applied in late November, way before the Dec 1st deadline.
