California AP State Scholar

How many exams are usually needed to win this award in California? Are there any Californians here who are aiming for this award?

I’m assuming since California is a huge state brimming with overachievers, most of the APs are probably necessary to get state scholar, since it’s based on highest # APs, then highest average score.

Good luck learning German and Italian :)

Slight correction: it’s the most with a 3 or above and THEN highest average score.

I’m assuming you’re gonna pass all of them haha

Hopefully. The only one I know of right now is christiansoldier, who got it with 20 exams.

You probably need more than 20 now.

California is usually the most competitive… 23+ at least would be pretty safe, although I think a couple years ago the state scholar had 26 :s

I plan on 21. That beats christiansoldier, but I may lose to someone who takes multiple foreign languages(Chinese is a common one, which I can’t take since I’m Indian) or Art History/Music Theory. We’ll see.

A LOT of them. I’m at thirteen 5’s through junior year, and I’m sure there are people in CA out there with more.

Well yes, but eventually, you run out of tests to take. If you only learn one foreign language, the max you can take is 24.

If 2 people both have straight 5’s and the highest number of APs in the state, is the tie broken by composite scores?

I think they both get it. I doubt College Board would go through the trouble of calculating/look up composite scores.

^They do it for the Siemens Scholarship…

^ Doesn’t mean they do it for AP Scholar awards.

[AP Data 2010](http://professionals.collegeboard.com/data-reports-research/ap/data)

Go to the bottom and open the Excel doc. that documents the number of people getting AP awards per state in 2010. For example, Colorado has 3 AP State winners.

I see. Any other Californians besides me and pi? If CA has a lot of overachievers, you’d expect a lot of them to be on CC.

The only other overachiever I can think of that’s not in college yet is Keasbey Nights, and he’s in Florida.

Garfieldliker, are you class of 2012?

Yes, I am. I saw you in one thread saying you’re taking 19-20? APs, so we may tie if no one else takes more than 21.

I can also think of TheRealFake(took 18 tests this year as a Junior), and he’s in Maryland.

Well, I’m looking at anywhere from 5-7 next year (depending on scheduling/self-studying), so we’ll see.

Not if one if them’s male and the other female.

^The implication was that both are the same gender.
