Being a Californian, I was at first thinking about going to the UC's in socal. But after looking at the university of oregon, it gets me interested in the school. I'm wondering though for all the Cali people who go to this school is how it is being a student from California at University of Oregon. Do you guys fit in, or are like the students that are from Oregon are not acceptive of you? If there are asian students at UO, how is college life over there? I know it's not like very very diverse, or I could be wrong. And last thing is, would I be able to make it into UO with a 3.2 gpa? My grades arent the prettiest for my junior year, but I want to know if I would be able to be admitted. I know there are many other factors out there, but I would like to have an idea of what gpa i need to get to be admitted. These are some odd questions that I'm asking, haha. But I would really love to attend this school, no doubt about it.

Right there with you dude.
Hispanic living in California. Just sent my application two days ago. I’m also worried about life in Oregon. The pictures and videos of the campus are beautiful. I think we have a shot to get in.

UO isn’t as ethnically diverse as CA colleges tend to be from a statistical perspective. That’s just reflective of the state’s demographics. However, just anecdotally, as you walk around campus you see a lot of Asian and Latino students there. I mean, it is a college and it is on the west coast and it is pretty big… so it’s not like it’s BYU or anything! If you apply and are accepted, you should visit and see how it feels. I bet you’ll just love it. (And a lot people there are Californians, even if they’re now Oregon residents. A big chunk of the population of Oregon is California refugees… including my own UO kid.)

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. I’m half Filipino and half white, but I look Mexican haha. I qualify for their “automatic admission”, but I’m not sure how that works. Do I just apply and there’s a box I check for it?

Also, one thing I’ve been hearing bothers me. I made it a point to NOT apply to UC Santa Cruz because it seemed like a political activist and pothead hotspot. Now I’m hearing that Eugene is very similar; is it really? I don’t have a problem with people like that (I usually just try not to associate myself with them), it’s just that I don’t want to be constantly bombarded during my college life about going to protest for animal rights every week or to go light up whenever they have weed. How is it up there?

It’s a big school so there’s everything there from straight-laced, focused business majors to dreadlocked weed smokers, most people are somewhere in between. However, if you specifically didn’t apply to UCSC solely because of the visible student culture there, then you probably won’t like UO. It’s not nearly as far along the spectrum as UCSC (it’s a big sports school, for one thing) but it tilts in that direction, for sure.

mezar: Aha, I don’t feel alone now! The photos and videos are awesome, yes. If I do get accepted during my senior year, and I attend UO, then I’ll say waddup to you. haha. Thanks for sharing your statistics man.
Rent: Haha yeah it’s a west coast college, it’s not like something in the midwest. There has to be a bit of diversity. I do want to visit UO this summer and next fall so I can get a feel for it, I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy it there no doubt.

HOLY SHNIKES. I’ve seen that name before. Prettyskim, are you HOLLYWOOD?!

HAHA whats up senor cakes?! How the hell you come across this forum LOL

Hahaha oh man, what a coincidence. I’ve been lurking CC forever, looking up random stuff about any school that pops into my head. I’ve applied to ASU, Ohio State, UCI, UCSB, and Cal Poly, and I wanted to apply to one more school before I called it quits. Oregon seemed like a nice compromise and I saw that I qualified for automatic admission, but I’m a bit hesitant now. I never liked Santa Cruz at all (except the Boardwalk) and I’m worried Eugene might give me that negative vibe, too. I’ll have to give it a visit sometime.

Do I hear baseball roadtrip??

Hell Yeah, baseball road trip. I am so down for that. I need to visit UO one day, and I need to start visiting some colleges.
