Hello! So I'm studying at a california community college for my second year now. If you can't already tell from my username, I'm pursuing a career in veterinary medicine and I'm hoping to transfer to UC Davis this fall of 2015. I have:
- finished pretty much all of my GE requirements with just one behavioral science class missing (gonna fulfill it this spring)
- 4.0 UC GPA currently
- junior-level standing by the time of transfer

But I am stuck between applying for either animal science or wildlife, fish and conservation biology majors :(

Major Prep for Animal Science includes:
- principles of biology course (done)
- general chemistry course (my cc splits general chemistry into 2 courses and I will only have 1 done by the time of transfer)
- organic chemistry (NOT done)
- calculus 1 (still deciding on whether or not I should take this -- but I have registered for it this winter term)
- calculus 2 (NOT done)

Major Prep for Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology includes:
- expository writing (done)
- intro public speaking (done)
- principles of biology course (done)
- general chemistry course (will only have 1 course out of 2 done by transfer)
- calculus 1 (considering for this winter)
- calculus 2 (NOT done)

Extracurricular/Honors:
- Honor's Program
- Phi Theta Kappa (honors society for scholarship and research opportunities)
- 3 years of experience at local Humane Society

The major prep I listed are all the courses my cc has articulated classes with. I understand my major prep is particularly lacking in animal science... and assist.org even tells me that completion of articulated courses in chemistry is highly recommended (keep in mind it's NOT a requirement though!), but chemistry courses are lacking at my cc and I just couldn't get into the classes I needed in time... But I figured I should probably major in a more broader field as opposed to wildlife, fish and conservation biology which also has an environmental science focus.
I've done some research though and I actually think the wildlife, fish and conservation biology major seems really interesting and I genuinely think I would be happy in that major. But I feel that I don't have enough experience with that field to know for sure if I would want to gravitate my veterinary studies in that direction.

Let me know what you think. Any opinions on which major I should really go for?

I am also aware that UC Davis allows me to choose an alternative major, but I don't know what the probability of them actually considering the alternative major actually is. Does anyone know if Davis chooses either by college or by major?

** I would like to also note that by the time spring 2015 semester ends, I'm predicting my UC GPA will drop to be around 3.75 minimum (rough estimation) depending on how well I can manage my classes these remaining semesters (I'm taking more science and mathematics courses so the rigor will be harder).
UC Davis doesn't say anything about Animal Science or Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology to be selective/impacted -- BUT I know that UC Davis's college of Agriculture and Environmental Science is #1. Also, they have the only public veterinary school in California (correct me if I'm wrong) so I would assume that there would be a lot of aspiring vets wanting to apply into majors like Animal Science like me...?

Anyone with experience, please let me know what you think my chances of getting in are and with which major! UC Davis has been my dream school ever since I found out about it and I really want my application to look good for them :)
