California Residency

Hey i am currently a 16 year old high school junior in florida
if when i graduate i would be 17 because my birthday in in the summer
i would be 18 by the rdd...
my parents will rent a house for at the latest may 2011.
according to that, by may 2012, they shall have residency.
please correct me if i am wrong

according to uc residency rules, the rules for minors are

For an unmarried minor (under age 18 by the residence determination date [RDD]) student, the residence of the parent with whom the minor lives is considered to be the student's residence.

However i don't believe i would fulfill this requirement because i would be 18 by rdd...
if my parents put the house in california as their primary address, and they claim me as a dependent.., can they get residency? also, since they have california as their primary address, can they be in florida to aid me and support me until we all move together?

if so, then can i get residency according to the dependent of a california resident?

also on another excerpt

these are the rules for a dependent child of a california resident

A student who has not been an adult resident of California for more than one year, and who is the natural or adopted dependent child of a California resident who has been a resident for more than one year immediately prior to the residence determination date, may be entitled to a waiver of the nonresident tuition until the student has resided in California for the minimum time necessary to become a resident so long as continuous attendance is maintained at a post-secondary institution.

i don't think i am considered a minor but i believe that i would be an exception

please let me know

thank you so much

A resident is someone who moves here with the intent to reside here and make California their domicile. Simply renting an apartment or a house with no intent to reside here does not establish residency.

If your parents move here with the intent to reside here, they will need to file California income tax returns. When they rent a house here, are they planning to live in it? Will they be working here? Will they be paying taxes here? Will you be going to high school here?

Those are the questions that need to be answered, not just the living here for one year and one day.

Trust me, it’s not that easy.
I legitimately fulfilled all of the requirements for a minor with parents residing in CA and they still made me file a bunch of paperwork. From what I remember they made me provide 1) Proof of parent’s employment 2) Proof of CA income tax from 2009 3) Proof of bank deposits made in CA. I think there was more too, but I can’t remember it off the top of my head.
