California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS)?

I'm looking into the COSMOS program offered by the UC schools, but it's a bit expensive. Does anyone know if they give academic scholarships or anything like that, and for anyone who has experienced the program, how was it/do you recommend it?

Thanks!!

COSMOS is awesome! I went to UCSC last year, and it was possibly the best summer of my life so far. It really broadened my horizons on what research is possible.

And yes, they do give scholarships. Two of my friends there were there on scholarships.

PhoenixStar, thats really awesome that you went to COSMOS. I'm a sophomore, and I'm applying for this summer.

How hard would you say it is to get in? What kind of gpa/qualities should a successful applicant have?

I have the same question as above. I'm applying to a few other summer programs/internships, and I'm looking for a program that I can be pretty confident I'll get into (in case I don't get into any other ones). To anyone who has done it before: how difficult is it to get in (and is a lot of it based on scores and GPA)?

If you don't apply for the most popular clusters at each campus, your chance in is pretty good. if you have a high weighted gpa (4.0+) & you are a senior, you have a good shot at $1000+ scholarship for college at the end of the program.
as for qualities, i think you just need to show a love for science in your responses.
i went to COSMOS UCI for astro, & I recommend it if you want a overview type program. if you're looking for hardcore research, cosmos is not for you, but there is a computer based lab component included in the program. cosmos is more of a great chance to meet new people and make friends.

^ I totally agree with all of that.

I would say that it isn't too hard to get into. I have a friend without much prior experience in science, who got in.

Good luck with your applications!
