California State System - Which GPA is used?

So my high school transcript gives me 3 different gpas:

Cumulative GPA
CA Cal Grant GPA
Weighted 10-12 GPA

Which one is used by the CSU system? Does CSU use all the four years of high school, or the gap gathered from sophomore and junior year? I was just wondering because I had a really good feeling with my Weighted 10-12 GPA but when I input everything my CA Cal Grant GPA appeared, which is significantly lower

Your weighted 10-12 GPA may or may not be correct since some HS’s will have a different weighting system. I suggest you use the RogerHub calculator below.

Cal States and UC’s use the capped weighted UC GPA for grades received in the a-g course requirements for 10-11th grades. You also get up to 8 honors points for UC approved Honors/AP/IB or DE courses taken the summer before Sophomore year to the summer before Senior year. CSU applications are due by Nov 30th so Senior grades are not included. Freshman grades are listed on the application and used to determine if a-g course requirements are met but not used in the CSU GPA calculation.

There is one exception to be noted for the CSU system and that is Cal Poly SLO. SLO uses 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation but they still cap at 8 semesters of honors points.

Also the Cal Grant GPA is on a 4.0 scale while the CSU capped weighted GPA is not and can be as high as a 4.4.

Thank you so much you are so helpful!

Also,
My Cal Grant GPA is a 3.96 (what does this GPA mean exactly? Because 3.96 is the gpa that appears when i put in all my courses for Cal state apply) and my weighted 10-12 is a 4.35. My capped weighted (according to rogerhub, but not appearing in my transcript) is a 4.25. Would this still be considered a competitive gpa in schools like SFSU, CSUS, CSUN, and SDSU? Thank you!

If you are a California resident, depending upon family income, you could be eligible for a Cal Grant. Cal Grant A has a GPA requirement which is 3.0 and your HS will upload this information if you fill out the FASFA.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Cal Grant A

-will help pay for tuition and fees at four-year colleges
-award amounts vary by type of college — for 2017-2018, Cal Grants are up to $12,630 at a University of California campus, up to $5,742 at a California State University campus, and up to $9,084 at independent colleges
-has a GPA requirement. If you’re applying using your high school GPA, you must have at least a 3.0 GPA; if applying using your college GPA, you must have at least a 2.4 GPA
-requires that your course of study leads directly to an associate or bachelor’s degree, or qualifies you for transfer from a community college to a bachelor’s degree program.

Your CSU GPA is definitely competitive for all the Cal States.

How Cal States admit: (Exception is Cal Poly SLO which uses 9-11th grades and MCA points):

The Cal states admit by major and eligibility index. They really only consider GPA/Test scores/Geographic location and HS course rigor. Other than Cal Poly SLO, your EC’s are not considered.

How to calculate your Eligibility index:
If you took the Redesigned SAT:
(CSU capped weighted GPA X 800) + (SAT Evidence Based Reading & Writing (EBRW) + Math Score) = Eligibility Index

Eligibility index for ACT:
(CSU capped weighted GPA X 200) + (ACT Composite x10)= Eligibility Index

You will then be ranked based on EI and major and they accept from the top down until all spots are filled.

You will get priority at your local CSU which you can look up on this link. Local applicants usually require a lower EI to get an acceptance unless the program is highly impacted.
