Calling any current students/parents: How many hours of sleep do you/your child get?

The title says it all. Also, list the school you/your child are attending.

Well, I try to get eight hours, but I think ChoatieKid averages about six, sometimes less, perhaps more on the weekend. I know when he comes home, it seems all he does is sleep.

My children come home and sleep (or did, as one graduated.)

However, I do not think you can draw conclusions about schools from a collection of online anecdotes. In general, whether or not the students get enough sleep depends much more on the students than the administration of any school. I used to think adults could change this. As my children have grown older, I’ve come to accept that it’s an individual choice.

Now, one dorm in one school we toured did have a sign up with directions on how to order pizza late at night. That is not optimal.

On the other hand, most schools will have a hard core of hard working students shorting themselves on sleep to keep on top of their studies and ECs. Most schools keep younger students under tighter wraps, with strict bedtime policies and lights out policies. Each year, the students gain more control over their schedules. Admittedly, it would be a losing battle to try to keep 17 to 19 year olds from doing their homework on the sly.

Looks like 7 hours for freshmen and 5-6 hours for senior.

cool! seems i’m already ready for this…
sleep 6 hours daily and 4-5 hours when i have multiple tests… Yay!

SAS is pretty big on healthy amounts of sleep: I’m generally asleep by 11 or 11:30 and up at 8 (yay!!!), though occassionally I’ve gone on 6 hours on a day before a break when a ton of big projects are due

Wow sas allows u to wake up at 8?? Thats cray cray.
You’re lucky!!!

7-8 weekdays. 8-9 weekends. Freshman have a mandatory lights out at 11:00.

@skieurope: What school do you go to?

I usually get about 7-8 hours. I go to public school tho lol. But I do agree with the previous post that said it’s an individual choice. I’m taking 3 ap classes and 2 honors classes this year and I know people who are taking 1 ap class who say they get 4-5 hours of sleep every night. I always get my hw done in as little time as possible sometimes I work thru snack. Most kids play on their phones for hours while trying to do hw. It’s all about time management. The part I don’t like is not knowing when a big assignment will come up. I like to know everything I have to do ahead of time. I hate when teachers keep it from you then spring it on you at the last minute.

I go to a private day school right now, but am going to Exeter next year. Last semester I got 8 hours with the occasional 7, but this semester its 7-8 and a few 6 hour nights here and there. This week I have had three 6 hour sleep nights.

I sleep about 4-6 hours per day.

L’ville has school starting at 9! I can actually get some sleep. looks to the stars

@mrnephew: WOW! I didn’t know L’ville started that late! LOL

Hotchkiss has mandatory lights out for preps (9th grade)

@dowzerw: When?

Actually for both 9th and 10th. 11:00 except Sat, when it’s 12:00

skieurope, do you go to Hkiss?

@skieurope has info on all of the schools it seems. One day I think he goes to Andover, the next Exeter, and the next St. Paul’s, and so on and so forth.

No. I visited when I was in the selection process.

^^ I didn’t mean that in a negative way @skieurope‌
