calling UCI students!

hey, so im most likely going to be attended uc irvine fall 2013 and i just had some questions and concerns to clear up!
ive been doing research on the dorms and im probably gnna go with Mesa. any recommendations or anything i should know about the dorming? coed?

also as far as the social scene there, i know everyone says youll have fun if you try to...but i dont want to put in a great deal just looking for fun. are there some parties i can easily find here and there? i was thinking of joining a sorority but it might be too expensive for me. i just want the full college experience nd have fun here and there.

with the whole asian population and everything (no offense to anyone) will i feel isolated? i mean im cool with them but i just dont like one group significantly dominating another. is the campus still diverse as far as other ethinicities/ types of people?

thank you!

pssssssttt

I currently live in mesa and I think that it is wayyyy better than middle earth. I mean middle earth has the perks of being on campus but I feel that being able to walk to campus, which is only about 5-10 minute walk depending on which hall you live in, you’re able to see a lot of the campus than being a minute away from class. You get to walk through the school of arts, you live closer to the UTC which has A LOT of great places to eat at. There’s in n out, taco bell, a kogi bbq place, yogurtland and a lot of other places too. Mesa only has 1 dining place and Middle earth has two. I mean the food isn’t that great, only on special occasions. But breakfast is the best!

The best dorms to live at are the phase 4 dorms, which are the newest ones. They are a lot bigger and a lot nicer. The smaller ones are the older ones and are a lot smaller and closer to the dining hall. The phase 4 dorms are all coed I think and you should pick a diverse themed one! I mean themes don’t really matter but i suggest choosing the diversity ones. I live in the farthest one in the back and living in a large hall is fun. In terms of “trying” to have fun, it’s just the fact that if you want to socialize you need to stay out of your rooms because some people don’t like to come out of their rooms and don’t “try” so just try and meet people when you get there. I live in a triple room and it is HUGE! I mean we could fit 3 round tables in there! Right now there’s three beds, three desks, three closets, and a table in my room and it is so spacious! Compared to middle earth, their room is basically a triple in a double sized room, which sucks. Coed dorms are fun, my floor has girls on one side and boys on the other. I mean people throw parties in the dorms if those type of people live with you but you can find parties at other dorms.

During rush week there’s A LOT of parties that you can go to. You don’t have to join a sorority to feel the college experience, it’s all up to you and what you decide to do. It kinda sucks without a car there but if you make friends you’ll be able to have a lot of fun! You can go out to a lot of places and there’s a lot more to do. You won’t feel isolated with all the asians around! I mean all the asians are nice, but some international kids just stay in their rooms. LOL. But it is very diverse when you get there. You realize there’s a lot of diverse people. Cliques do form in halls which kinds suck so you start to end up hanging around the people you like because you start to realize who you don’t want to be around.

If you have any more questions about anything just ask!

thanks! that was really helpful (:
about there only being one dining hall at mesa, if i have the meal plan and all, am i only allowed to eat there? or can i eat at any hall?
when i sign up for housing, is there an option for phase 4 i can pick? and so with the big room and all, would you recommend living in a triple or double room?
thanks again:D
