CALS Admissions

I have a few questions about the admissions process in CALS

If u choose a second choice major will u only be placed in it if u were rejected from ur first choice? Also, If ur deferred from #1 would they put u in #2 or only if u r Rejected?

If u apply ED can u indicate that u only want the decision to be binding if u r admittted to ur first choice major?

MNOAAA12--Maybe no one is answering this question because no one thinks he/she knows the answer. You should definitely ask when/if you visit. I have family members at Cornell--I have heard that sometimes in CALS if you are not able to get in through one major, you might have a better chance through another major, so that's one advantage of applying to 2 majors within the college. I think you have to write another essay to be considered for the second major? Not sure how accurate that information is, though, so I would regard that as hear-say and definitely ask CALS Admissions to be sure. I haven't heard anything about how applying to 2 majors affects denials, waitlists, deferments, or GTs.

Good luck!

Thanks Dr. Mom. Only problem is i already visited and am not sure if i am gunna again (i might over the summer) and i am planning on applying early so if nobody knows i guess ill have to just call them or try to set up an interview somehow.

You only get considered for the second major if you are rejected from the first. If you are deferred from the first, you don't get considered for the second major until you are rejected from your first during the regular decision cycle.

If you apply early, and if you are accepted for either major, it will be binding. With that said, it is very easy to switch majors when you get in.

Thanks yg18, that was really helpful.
