Hey how does Caltech normally contact people for this event? I was emailed about the opportunity. Should I feel special =)?

If you are on their database as someone going to college next year, they send an invitation.

In this case, I am not.

I received an email about a Caltech preview, but the email I received was only about a half-day preview, not a whole weekend. I’m graduating in two years and I was pleasantly surprised by the email, but I didn’t know what to make of it. I hope it’s good news :)

You can always visit Caltech, they have regular sessions. I honestly would not put much hopeinto any e-mails or solicitations received as this based on fairly incomplete information such as PSAT scores or one AP score. When you get into the application everyone is considered equal. CalTech does not pay attention to legacy or demonstrated interest unlike some other colleges.

Colleges get information from the College Board and other organizations and send out mailings and e-mails, especially if you have contacted them. That is their outreach. So concentrate on getting your application to the strongest level you can.
