Just want validation that Stanford is better for pre-med. I'm second guessing my decision now.

If you want to go premed, you are probably better off going to Stanford. The grades at Caltech are harsh enough that competitive medical school admission becomes very difficult. That being said, if you are more interested in research in medical fields (i.e. an MD/PhD), Caltech would be the better choice.

Speaking as a practicing physician, not a whole lot of what you learn in college is actually useful in med school. Medicine, both at med school level and in practice, barely counts as a science. I would say even the MD/PhD’s I knew were really not that rigorous, and most of them ended up in clinical medicine. This was at one of the top private med schools in the country. So go to Stanford, get a good wide ranging liberal arts education and hang out and enjoy yourself. You will be spending enough of the rest of your life focused on a very small slice of the world of knowledge.

My opinion: Stanford will suit your needs better, but if I were you, I’d forget about being a premed

(Just am a little cynical about being a premed.)
