Hey all,
Which school would better prepare you for the MCAT's and medical school? Anyone know of the acceptance rates to med school from both schools? Thanks!

i've heard Caltech isn't great for premeds becuz if ****s up ur gpa, which is essential for med school, whereas at Stanford there's grade inflation. I know for sure Stanford's got a great premed program, and it does really well in placing kids into good med schools.

i'm here at stanford, and a few years back, did have the nice choice of choosing (among others) btw caltech and stanford...
let me just say, in both places, you can get a great science education...so, preparation for the mcats isn't a concern...also, both places have respectable "acceptance rates" to med school (i.e. stanford gets about 80% in of those who apply each year, compared to <50% in the nation)...i'm sure caltech is comparable...
what the previous poster mentioned is true to some extent, it's hard to do very well at caltech, not to say it's a cakewalk here at stanford, either, though...as is at most places, ~80% of students in intro sciences will not get A's here (that's just statistically speaking)

something to consider, though, is if you're sure you want to be studying sciences...if you want to be premed and study a wide range of subjects, i'd recommend stanford...if you want to study hard sciences all the time (and i mean ALL the time), caltech might be a better choice...and both paths can lead to you being a great MD.

I'm not sure if I've really touched on all aspects of everything I set out to say here, so fell free to reply to this (and hope I remember to come back to this thread) or PM me (which I believe it'll tell me next time i come to CC)...

above all, though, go to both admit/prefrosh days/weekends if you can and just feel it out...more than likely, you'll like one environment better than the other...they're pretty different...
