My son (class of '22) got his residential college assignment yesterday – he is assigned to Campbell Hall in Rocky. Does anyone know anything about this hall? He got a single room w/ one roommate. From the layout, it appears they are on the 3rd floor, and only have 1 closet in the room, and the nearest bathroom is on the 1st floor lol. I guess 2 beds, 2 dressers, 2 desks is standard. Hoping someone has info about Campbell they can share! Let’s go Rocky!
Rocky is great! I lived in a Witherspoon double as a freshman and a Holder quad this past year as a sophomore, and I loved it. From what I hear, Campbell is pretty similar to Holder in that bathrooms are in the basement, which can be annoying if you need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night but are otherwise a good way to get out of your room while you’re studying. There’s no AC (but there is heating), so you should bring a fan for the first and last few weeks of the school year. The furniture is standard - every student gets a bed, desk, bookshelf, and dresser, with a large shared closet. No laundry room in the building so residents usually walk next door to Joline or Hamilton Hall for laundry. Very close to the Rocky/Mathey dining hall, which is great. Rocky overall is close to humanitarian/social sciences buildings, but far from engineering/natural sciences buildings, so if your son is an engineer or premed, you might want to bring a bike for him. Your son is very lucky to be in Rocky! He’s going to love Princeton.
Thank you so much, @normanxi !! I appreciate your reply and insight. At least I now know the shared closet is sufficiently large for two boys. And, that the laundry room is decently close by. We were planning on getting him a bike anyway, because he is also a football player and from what I understand Rocky is a fair distance from the athletic facilities where he will spend a good deal of his time. BUT - now I also know to have him bring a FAN.
He is planning to be an ORFE major.
I’m so glad you responded and I appreciate your enthusiasm about Rocky! He already LOVES Princeton, so this was the last piece of the puzzle. He can’t wait to get there! <3
Congrats, @mommajes! My DD was in Rocky (lived in Holder the past 2 years) and will now be moving on upperclass housing this fall (in the junior slums). One pro tip I have is to be sure to live-stream the opening exercises on Sunday 9/9 at 3pm. Here’s the link:

When DD was a freshman I watched the whole thing on the website starting with the procession into the Chapel and I cried and cried. I’m a Princeton alum and we had the same opening exercise ceremony back when the dinosaurs roamed, though the Pre-rade festivities right after it are new. It’s a wonderful tradition and gives me the chills just thinking about it.
Will do, @GnocchiB! Thanks for that tip. We are moving him in on the 1st, but it’s nice to know we can watch via live-stream the ceremonies the following Sunday. And we definitely will! Continued success and happiness to your daughter as she moves along in her journey there!
@mommajes son (2020) was in Holder / Rocky. He loved it! Yes, good advice from @normanxi to buy a fan (or two). My son ha plenty of exercise walking to his engineering classes, but kept off the freshman 15 that way.
He is ORFE too, so feel free to hit me up with any questions.
My son is currently at Princeton for an internship this summer and has been using his two fans, oddly enough it’s about to rain and it is in the 70’s this weekend. Meanwhile in Austin, Texas (his home) it’s 103! Crazy.
Good luck!
