Hello I was looking at Cincinnati and had a few questions, I have seen the campus through pictures and unfortunately a visit is out of the question but it looks amazing. Is it in the heart of Cinci? I was accepted at Iowa and I would like to go there but it all depends on money and one thing I love about Iowa is the college town feel and the school spirit. Is that true here? Also do they give out a decent amount of money for average students? I messed up in high school and got decent grades but nothing to deserve any merit aid. Any other things that I need to know or any huge draws to Cincinnati? Thanks alot in advance.

I can’t speak for Iowa, however, Cincinnati is a VERY good school. They have a tremendous amount of course offerings, have some nationally ranked programs and give out some decent scholarships. Its location leaves something to be desired since it is an inner city school. However, you can live in the dorms or dorm appartments and never leave the campus.

Speaking of the campus, most of the buildings are very new and have received archtectual awards. Their facilities are great. They also have one of the strongest coop programs in the US. In fact, they started the coop form of education.

However, make no mistake, they are a hard school to do well in. If you don’t have a strong work ethic, decent study and academic skills, you can easily flunk out.

Cincinnati’s off-campus area varies from not so good to a really interesting mix of old houses and new and old shops, a famous ice cream parlor (Graeter’s), & a movie theater.

It’s not going to have a “college town” feel because there are other things in Cincinnati besides UC…but on the up side, there are other things in Cincinnati besides UC! A world class zoo is about a mile up the road, and 2 miles away (downtown) are the symphony, Reds & Bengals stadiums, and all the amenities of a large downtown area.

Or you could stay on campus all the time…it’s a very compact (walkable) campus and with the conservatory there, you can see shows and concerts without leaving campus. They show movies a few times a week at Tangeman University Center, and the recreation center is new and quite well equipped with a pool, climbing wall, etc. etc.

As far as school spirit–UC Bearcats just won the Belk Bowl. Go Cats! And the basketball team I was going to say undefeated but as of last night they’re 10 and 1.
