Considering the Campus Employment portion of financial aid...I am wondering if as a freshman, will I really have time for the 10-12 hours per week to work? Will I miss out on the college experience of sporting events, intramurals, Mass, clubs, etc.,etc. Will I just be studying and working?? What type of jobs do they offer on campus??
Maybe I should wait a semester to see if time is in short supply, but probably should help with expenses for this expensive school..If I decline now, can I sign up later if I think that I do indeed have the time?
Thanks.....

My understanding, as a parent of a current student, is that various jobs are available on campus. When you arrive, there will be people with applications outside the dining halls where you can work as little as a 3 hour shift per week. You can work in between classes, etc. There are jobs in the call center for fundraising and there is an on campus restaurant and club where some students work. If you are concerned with earning money for school, you can opt to work over the summer and then begin the semester working a few hours a week. You will get to meet other students that way and you can always re-evaluate your hours after fall break or the end of the first semester. Good luck!

I think it depends upon the individual. How much free time you have will depend upon the courses you’re taking, what your academic goals are, and how much time you’ll need to spend studying to meet those goals. As a science major taking majors classes in math, physics, and chem, I highly doubt I could manage a job in addition to my academic load. My roommate, however, is working multiple jobs and still has plenty of time to party on the weekends and play sports. The fact that he’s a business major probably helps.

First year studies (FYS) at Notre Dame for most students requires a 17-18 credit load plus a zero credit Phy Ed elective each semester. Add in extracurricular activities on campus, dorm events, a football game here and there, band commitment if you’re into that, some volunteer hours, etc… Find another 10-12 for work? I guess you can always forgo sleep.
