Has anyone heard anything about campus employment? I’m fairly sure work study and campus employment are two different processes, but the Notre Dame website fails to give very much information at all about signing up for these things.
I see there is a job board with very few jobs currently posted, as incoming students should we be waiting until we arrive on campus for a job fair or something of the sort or do we need to be finding a job before arriving on campus?
Anyone have any idea?
Work study guarantees that you’ll be able to work enough hours to earn the amount awarded in your scholarship. On insideND, there’s a job board where they post the jobs available. They almost always have openings in the dining hall, but that’s considered less desirable work. The best work study jobs usually go by word of mouth, and are desk jobs that you can do your homework at during down time. I’m not sure if there’s a job fair. The job board will fill a little more as you get closer to the school year, so I’d apply to stuff you’re interested in up until the school year starts.
You can wait until orientation to find a job. Both of my kids worked while students and were able to choose from an assortment of positions. You could also call the financial aid office to inquire. Daughter (ND '11) worked in the admissions office and son (ND '17…a Senior!!!) worked at Reckers (on campus coffee shop type place) and then the last couple years for the IT department.
Pounce as soon as you get on campus for orientation. My son worked at Reckers (part of dining, but not a dining hall per se). He loved working there and worked there for all four years, becoming senior student manager as a junior.
I also know a student who worked filming sports practices. He advanced in his position as well over the years. There’s plenty of opportunity, just don’t be shy about contacting offices who post positions.
