I'm currently doing full-time PSEO at the U of M and this will be my second year. So basically I'm in high school, but my Junior and Senior year I will have taken all of my courses at the U of M, which would make me a Junior at the U of M upon graduation of high school. Hope that makes sense!

That's just some background, the real question I have is about housing. Having been at the U of M for a year now (living at home) I have gotten a feel of the dorms, but I would like a second (or hundredth) opinion on what housing you think would fit best for me.

I'd like to say I'm a fun gal-- I'm very driven and friendly and really like online shopping and kittens. I'm a normal girl you'd find at the U, but unlike many, I'm NOT a partier. I don't think I'd do well in superblock. In fact, I'm pretty scared of drunk people so that's out of the question. I just don't want a roommate who comes home late every night with a random guy and occasionally pukes on my clothes, you know? I'm interested in studying either biology or psychology and like being around other people who hold school as a high priority (I really do). I need/prefer quiet spaces to study and like having my own space. I really would not want to share a communal bathroom unless it's super clean (I'm kind of a germaphobe). I don't mind having a roommate, but probably only one other girl. At the same time, I'd prefer having my own room. I'm open to single rooms, but I also want to meet new people and make new friends, since my whole PSEO situation is kind of socially awkward (I started when I was 16).

I hope that gives you sort of an idea of who I am... feel free to ask more questions! I'm thinking either Yudof (in a double suite so I can have my own room, still have a roommate, and a private bath) or 17th in a double cause it's so clean and new (for now at least, I suppose). Do they do a good job matching roommates? Even in suites like Yudof?

I'm also not in honors. I'm artsy, but I donno if I'm quirky enough to fit in with some of the middlebrook kids.

@nsandwich…I think Middlebrook would be a great fit for you. You don’t have to be in Honors to live in MIddlebrook, and in general it’s a little more quiet and studious than other dorms. There are ALL types of students in Middlebrook, so it’s not like every student that lives there is somehow quirky or unique. You’ll have no problem finding students there that have the same priorities and interests as you, and the vast majority of rooms are suite style so you’ll share a bathroom with 3 other girls.

Our D1 lived in Middlebrook her freshman year and really enjoyed it. She enjoyed the walk across the bridge for some daily exercise, and never had any issues making her classes in plenty of time. Based on what you’re looking for in a dorm…I’d recommend Middlebrook for you. Good Luck…and Go Gophers!!

I agree with Wolverine. My son also lived in Middlebrook and enjoyed his experience there. I think there was one bath for each two rooms and they were really quite clean. There are some other rooms on the river side of middlebrook that I think have a bath for each double room. Son’s girlfriend (junior) lives in a single at Yudof and has since freshman year. She likes being alone, but son says he thinks it is a bit too lonely for her at times.

College is all about new experiences. You might not get the perfect roommate…but then again, you might have one that will be your best friend for life!

@Wolverine86 @Kajon Thank you both!! I made this other account because for some reason CC keeps saying I have the wrong password when I log in with the other one even after multiple resets hmm.

Really good to know about the bathroom situation in Middlebrook. I know it may seem kind of silly, but that’s a pretty big deciding factor for me housing-wise hehe. I really love West Bank as well! How’s the crime level near Middlebrook? Is it pretty safe?

Thank you both again for taking the time to respond!

D1 never had any issues with feeling unsafe on the West Bank, but if she was looking for places to eat, hangout, etc she normally would meet up with friends in Dinkytown or somewhere else off the East Bank side so she didn’t have a lot of experience with West Bank off-campus environment.

You are pretty much going to have experience with alcohol wherever. Try to get in 17th if you can, it’s awesome, it’ll make up for all your problems.
