Depends on the school. At mine, most are either minimum wage or a set weekly pay (eg $70/week). The main exception to that is bus drivers, who start at just under $10/hour I believe.

I am a peer tutor, and I’m paid $8/hour.

It really depends on the school and the job. The research project I’m working on pays undergrads $11/hour and it wasn’t a competitive process. OTOH, working in the caf starts at minimum wage.

So are there a lot of jobs that pay above $10?? And are these jobs competitive?

Depends…on…the…school.

Are you in college? Are you in high school? Look at some job websites for colleges you are looking at. That will give you an idea.

I’m in highschool and I’m just curious. I tried accessing some school’s website but they needed the school’s login id.

It definitely depends on the school. At Yale, for example, the student minimum wage is $12/hr.

At Duke, I started at $8.50 for an office/programming type job.

At my old school, I worked as a tutor (tutoring calculus and physics) for a flat $8.25/hr.

These numbers are highly variable, depending on the school and the skills. If you have a lot of work experience or graphic design experience or something, you’ll probabably start higher than somebody with no experience…and etc.

Have you tried asking students at the schools you’re looking at? Maybe posting in those school’s boards will give you a better idea. If or when you visit schools, try to ask students on campus or maybe a tour guide or something. Most students are pretty open about what on campus jobs pay, and they’ll likely give you something of a range. Other than that, just wait until you go to school, and look at the job postings or ask around. Unless the average wage of on campus jobs is going to significantly affect where you decide to go to school, it’s really not that important to know now and what you hear might not be what it’s like at your school.

At my undergrad, working at the bookstore or dining hall was around $8.25/hr or something, although I think you could get raises. Working at the library was around $9.50. Some labs that paid would be maybe $10-12/hr. Shuttle drivers got paid $12/hr-something. Undergrad TAs got around $15/hr. And I’m sure it varied widely with other jobs as well. Competitiveness depends entirely on the job. Becoming a TA was fairly competitive, but the dining hall took pretty much anyone that had time in their class schedule. Evening jobs were usually less competitive than jobs with shifts during the day. Some jobs just take the first people that submit an application that meets their requirements, and other jobs sift through their applicants to take the best people. It just depends, and none of that might be relevant to the school you end up attending.
