Accepted and visited open house this weekend. Really loved it. Little worried about reviews I am seeing about lackluster campus life. Is it true that most people leave campus on weekends? I will be coming from out of state and commuting home on weekends will not be an option. Also, I was looking forward to having fun and meeting lots of people who enjoy keeping busy with social activities.
My D also visited and felt the same way. I’ll be watching the thread from chilly WI…
As a Parent I think we all have the same concerns, I get a mixed feeling about this school, has a great reputation but a lot of negative posts on line. I guess i’m going to go and look at a mix of other schools and see if they all have the same negativity. I guess when you are not happy you tend to voice the negativity louder than when you are a happy student and dont really think about saying so on line? We attended the Open house last week and was impressed with the Students and the Teachers. The campus is very nice but a bit smaller than I expected. Wondering how many kids are on Campus on weekends as well.
only 48% of student live on campus. It’s very common for upperclass students to live in neighboring towns that are very safe and clean. 30% of students are from out of state. 84% of students are full time… So it’s not that it’s a suitcase school, the majority of kids just live close by. There are tons of activities and clubs and things to do on campus. It’s hard to beat a quick trip to NYC. http://www.collegeview.com/schools/seton-hall-university/figures?siteId=41
Thank you so much for response. Right now this is my son’s number 1. This issue was his only reservation.
With over 100 clubs and organizations on campus, there is always something for our students to do. Our Student Activities Board regularly puts on events during the week and on weekends for students. Additionally, students can participate in intramural sports, community service, and even hop on the train and go into Manhattan for the day (about a 35 minute train ride from South Orange station).
I have the same concern, my daughter will be coming from Nevada
It’s a wonderful school but the residential life isn’t the best. The dorm are OK but the food it lousy and the hours it is available are limited.
The academics are excellent. The location is very convenient to the town center and the train right into Penn Station. The school is bringing in more out of state students but is really struggling with how to house them.
If you go prepare to have to move off campus after freshman year either because you want to or you have no choice.
The campus is quiet on weekends they are trying I think the school is in a big transition so that’s going to be something to think about.
