My S applied to NYU (Stern) for Fall 2018. He knows that it is a top program and would love to attend if admitted. However, he is nervous about missing out on a “campus life”. How much of that is a big deal? Or does he have a valid point? If there are existing students who were also nervous about the same thing and have adjusted to it, please help and chime in.
If admitted try to visit Weekend on the Square. The Stern class is divided in cohorts and there are plenty of activities to socialize within NYU, the dorms, Stern, Clubs. My S has made many friends from LSP, Tisch, Tandon (Stern of course) and together they will go to the Tennis US Open, Music concerts at MSGarden, Musical/plays at Broadway theaters or just to have dinner at one of many near restaurants/cafes/jazz bars on weekends. During the week they got together at WSPark between classes/go to the NYU gym/stay in the Tisch Bldng/Bobst Library.
Every other weekend friends from his HS visited from Boston, Colorado, PA, CT, California and go to NYC main attractions. They noticed the NYU students are Street-Smart. He told us he could not imagine himself somewhere else.
Wish you good luck!
