What is the difference in term of the program? Which one is "less bore"? My parent went to my brother's graduation in another school, and it was so boring.... I don't want the same thing happen.
Is there a ticket limit in the department commencement?
Any marching band?

From what I know, the campuswide commencement is open to all undergraduates graduating of all majors. It’s a much larger affair and there’s a ticket restriction for guests (I believe it’s 5). This is also when the “best” or “most famous” person gives a speech. As for the department commencement, depending on how many people are in the major, it can be real long or somewhat manageable in length. There is no ticket limit in department commencements (unless they run out of seats in the facility), but you do have to pay for each ticket ahead of time (minus your own).

Note: This is based on what I’ve read for my own department’s commencement and my experience in attending one department commencement. I’m graduating this spring and don’t know for sure of the “actual” difference between the two.

which one would you go?

I know my major always does commencement indoors in Zellerbach, so next year I would just have my parents go to my departmental commencement.

Go to the department commencement. It is there that your name will be called and receive your degree…mailed later

From what I remember the campus wide ceremony was a convocation. It normally has more renowned speakers. My parents and guests went to the department ceremony - they did not attend the campus-wide event.

What happens if you are in more than one department

If you had to pick one for your parents and family to come to, it would be the department one. Like UCBChemEGrad said, that’s where you’ll walk the stage and hear your name called out. Depending on your department, your ceremony may be indoor or outdoor. The two main locations are Zellerbach Hall & the Greek Theater.

@fortify: If you’re part of more than 1 department, I’m assuming if you want you can attend the commencement ceremonies for both departments, assuming that they’re not held at the same time.
