I'm wondering if anyone has been to the general commencement and departmental commencements (mine would be UGIS at the Greek) and have any input as to which is better to go to. Obviously the departmental is going to be smaller and more intimate and the general ceremony will have more distinguished speakers. Beyond that, I was wondering what people's impressions were.

I have the same problem! ): The Poli Sci and Soc commencements clash. Unfortunately it is mandatory for me to go to the Soc one, so I’ll have to miss Poli Sci…

I talked to an advisor, and technically none of the other commencements are supposed to clash with the general one - maybe you could go chat with your advisor and check it out? For example, the Soc one initially clashed with the general one but later they found out it was a mistake and shifted it.

Do you guys know why the general commencement is so long? it’s like from 8 to 2!!

because it is. It’s a long and arduous process of formalities and so on. I think it starts properly at 9; there’s a procession and registration time and whatnot. Then there are speeches, and more speeches, etc…

I was at the grad fair the other day. when I was picking up the tickets, one of them told me we are not going walk on the stage one by one, and name wont be called either, is that true?
