Im just wondering if a 2.5 gpa can get in. Dont recommend cc cuz its not happening. Ive also done a lot of activities, clubs and all hours done so my only flaw is gpa. My sat score is 1500. Now tell me.
Are you in the local in-service area for CSUN? Do you meet the minimum a-g course requirements?

Great test scores if that is 1500/1600? Calculate your Eligibility index (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + CR)
CSUN impaction criteria have significantly changed for Fall 2016-Spring 2017 admissions. The local admission area has been revised and several individual majors have added supplementary admissions criteria. For an overview, please see Impaction.
All freshman applicants must meet the minimum standard CSU admission criteria described on this page. Non-local area applicants must also meet the higher supplementary admission criteria for their geographical location. If you are a California resident, regardless of location, applying to an impacted major, you must also meet the supplementary criteria for that major. Both kinds of supplementary criteria are described at Freshman Impaction.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for admission as a first-time freshman, you must meet all the standard CSU admission criteria below:
- Graduate from high school or have the legal equivalent of a high school diploma.
- Complete the college preparatory subject requirements (a-g course list) with a grade of C or better:
English: 4 years
Mathematics: 3 years. Algebra, geometry, and intermediate algebra
Social Science/History: 2 years, including 1 year U.S. history or U.S. history and government
Science: 2 years. 1 biological science with lab, and 1 physical science with lab
Foreign Language: 2 years in the same language (subject to waiver for applicants demonstrating equivalent competence)
Visual and Performing Arts: 1 year. Art, dance, drama/theater, or music
Electives: 1 year. Selected from English, advanced mathematics, social science/history, laboratory science, foreign language, visual and performing arts, or any other courses approved and included on the UC/CSU “a-g” list.
3. SAT or ACT test scores must be received by Admissions and Records no later than February, for Fall 2017 admission. The last opportunity to take the tests is in early December 2016. Register 5 weeks or more before the test date
4. Earn a qualifiable eligibility index. The CSU Statewide Eligibility Index is a weighted combination of high school grade point average during the final three years of high school and a score on either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT). All grades earned in “a-g” college preparatory courses taken in 10th through 12th grades are used to calculate the grade point average (GPA).
Local area applicants graduating from California schools inside the defined Local Admission Area must possess a minimum eligibility index of 2900 using the SAT or 694 using the ACT.
Non-local area applicants graduating from California schools outside the defined Local Admission Area must meet the higher eligibility index published at freshman impaction criteria.
Note: Space permitting, non-local area applicants will be admitted until the freshman class is full. It is possible that no non-local-area, first-time freshman applicants will be admitted if local applicants fill all available admission spaces. Therefore, CSUN recommends applying to an additional, alternate campus.
I am guessing the SAT score is for all 3 sections of the old test. I’d say Northridge is unlikely, particularly if you aren’t local. Channel Islands and SF are probably other options.
Don’t be so quick to discount the CC route. It is a path that works for THOUSANDS of students every year. Most have an environment that will allow you to build foundational knowledge and hone your study skills - which probably could use some polishing.
I am local but i have one d in my second semester of pre calc. For a reason im sure they’ll accept
I am local , but i have a d in one semester of pre calc my other grades are fine
If the D is 1st semester and you passed 2nd semester Pre-Calc, then you have validated the D but it is calculated into your CSU GPA. If the D is from 2nd semester, you do not get credit for Pre-Calc as an a-g course unless you repeat the course with a passing grade.
Since you are local, you have priority thus a higher chance for an acceptance but since CSUN has been so impacted, this is not a guarantee. You should apply to several non-impacted campuses along with CSUN such as Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills, Bakersfield, East Bay or Stanislaus.
So what is your eligiblity index? Do you meet the minimum 2900?
Thank you ive decided to immediatly re take pre calc in 12 to get a better grade i was just mad that i had to leave ap calc.
Retaking a course in during Sr year will check the a-g box but, not boost your CSU/UC GPA. As far as CSUs and UCs are concerned, your GPA is set at the end of the summer before your Sr year.
With impacted campuses like CSUN, your fate depends on the applicant pool. Be sure to apply to a non-impacted campus as an alternate - or prepare to head to a CC.
Many students start at cc. Many cc have direct admit programs with UCs.
@Gumbymom
Hello, I am currently a student at a CC out of the local area of CSUN.
I am graduating this fall with my AA-T in psychology.
My first year of college ruined my GPA, I was able to bring it up to a 2.8 before this last semester. I am striving to bump it up to a 3.0 before I graduate and with my AA-T it will bump me to a 3.1.
I have my golden four completed (B’s)
I applied to CSUN, CSULB, and CSUF. I know my GPA is low and I am extremely bummed and stressed out because I feel like I will get rejected by all of the schools.
Do you think there is any possibility for me to be accepted?
I don’t think your GPA will be good enough to get you into any of the schools you are targeting.
You should certainly apply but, also apply to non-impacted and less selective schools like SJSU and Channel Island
