I am currently a senior & am applying for CSULA. I have a GPA of 3.3, and am applying for CSULA, however, i have only taken one year of Spanish and a semester of Music/Visual Arts, but i will be doing my second year of a foreign language and other half of a visual arts class this year (senior year), can i still be accepted into CSULA, or any university for that matter?

It depends on a lot of things. How are your SAT scores? Other classes you have taken? Just look at their website and see what they are looking for:)

i earned a 1500 on my sat’s. it would have possibly been higher if i had taken Algebra 2 by then. i only had geometry & algebra 1 when i took the Sat. But now i have taken Algebra 2 and am planning on retaking the SAT’s.

I’m not exactly sure how CSUs admissions run since college is a lot more competitive than how it use to be when I applied.

After looking into CSULA’s admission requirements… I found:

-Basic requirement:
1. are a high school graduate,
2. have completed with a C or better each of the courses in the comprehensive pattern of college preparatory subject requirements, and have a qualified eligibility index*
3. Some students, such as International Students, must also take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Test. Press here for information on the TOEFL Requirement.

*“Residents:
If you are a California high school graduate (or a resident of California for tuition purposes) you need a minumum index of 2900 using the SAT I or 694 using the ACT.
If you are a resident and your GPA is 3.00 or above you are not required to submit test scores. However, you are urged to take the SAT I or ACT since these are used for advisement and placement.”

I think you’ll be okay for CSULA. I’m not exactly sure for Universities because they more competitive than CSUs. I recommend bringing up your GPA and SAT scores.

Good luck!!

Can I get some advice too?
I just got my Oct. 6 SAT scores and I got a 1260. I’m not sure what my gpa is but when I used that CSU gpa calculator it said I got a 3.6, but it make me wrong. My sophomore year, first semester was bad because I failed trig and never made it up. In junior year first semester I got a D in AP Calc AB and didn’t make it up either. I never passed any AP exam. I swam varsity on a swim team for two years, placed in CIF and our team is Northern League Champs. There was a disturbance in my education when I transferred out of one school to the a charter school then to the one I am at now, in junior year. I’m founder of two flourishing clubs, Guitar and an environmental club, and president of dance club. I’ve choreographed for church and another dance team for about 3-4 yrs. I’m Treasurer of my schools student council and I take classes at a local city college.
I want to major in poli sci and I’m EDing to Pomona College. If I don’t make it I’d hope to at least get into UCLA or UCI. I’m really scared because my SAT score is low and my grades don’t seem to hot either… HELP!!

Hi TeaButter,

You should know your GPA score from your report card. Whatever GPA is stated on your high school record is what the Uni will see. You should double check your GPA with your school counselor because if you failed Trig and did poorly in AP Calc AB, I would assume you would have a lower GPA.

If you have a 3.6 GPA, it’s good but it’s not as competitive as other GPA scores I’ve seen. I have posted this guideline before, and I’m going to show it to you:

"There are 5 general measures that colleges with a holistic review process use to gauge a student’s competitiveness. In order of importance, they are:

GPA

Course Rigor (Honors, AP, IB Courses)

Standardized Test Scores

Activity Sheet

Essays

(Note: this is also the order in which they read your application materials)"

As you can see, this is the order in which they will look at your application. Do you have a good GPA score? As you can see they will look into your AP classes, how many AP classes have you completed? and thirdly, are your SAT score high? Since GPA is ranked number one of importance, I don’t think a 3.6 GPA will be considered for admissions at a competitive University. It’s great that you have many activities that you can put down but it’s not as important as the top 3 measures. UCLA is more competitive to get into than UCI, so I recommend looking into the admission requirements for both and see whether you have the requirements or not.

Maybe you can apply for a sport scholarship? Good luck on your application!

oh man… alright thank you!
