This is a very stupid question, I know, but I must sleep at night. I am currently in Algebra I and it seems like my final grade is bound to be a C or a B because i changed schools and that messed up my grades. I am also not too sure if the EOC really adds up to it as a thirty percent. I am in grade 8 and will be taking Geometry during the summer. I also got a B as a final grade for Physical Science. I was wondering how much this lowers my chances into getting into an Ivy League school.
Why do you care about Ivies as an 8th grader? What do they offer you that you want out of a college?
Eighth grade grades don’t matter, start worrying in high school
Welp, they do, this actually does count because these are Highschool courses.
I took highschool level Algebra 1 and I don’t think it matters because it was taken in 8th grade. On my transcript all it says that I received the credits for passing the course. So yeah, 8th grade scores don’t count towards college admissions.
It doesn’t count because it was taken in middle school. It counts that you passed. I took Algebra I in 8th grade and it just said I passed; they started counting actual grades in ninth grade.
@pompito I took algebra and geometry in middle school, and even though they were high school-level courses, I don’t think any colleges I applied to asked for grades in those classes (the exception was for UC’s, which I think asked for my 8th grade scores, but other schools I applied to didn’t).
Got C- in PE grade 9 and 10, and C+ in Math 10. Got into Columbia, Dartmouth, and UChicago.
@FuzzyPeaches22: I’m guessing you got good grades as a junior/senior? It’s the opposite for me, I have a downward curve in my grades and I screwed up big time this first semester of junior year ._.
@Mochis1 I got pretty decent grades in grade 11 and 12 (think 95%-ish). Ahh, I see why you would worry. As long as it isn’t like a super drastic change it should be ok. Focus on strengthening other parts of your application!
