B+ in Algebra?

Alright so I’m a good student and I’ve gotten all A’s for all of my classes except… drumroll please I got a B+ final grade for Algebra I honors in 7th grade and am predicting either a B+ or an A- for Algebra 2 honors this year (9th grade). I’m interested in going to a college with an excellent science program, how much will this hinder me? (I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT or even the PSAT yet so I can’t factor that in, although I did do very well on the Readistep test which is apparently entirely useless). Thanks!

Honestly, it is far too early to say how that will affect you as a 9th grader. Colleges look a lot at your overall GPA, which isn’t exactly concrete considering you are a freshman. However, if you are worried about a B+ or A- affecting your chances, my suggestion is to aim for higher grades in the rest of your high school career to be safe and make up for the lower grade.

Good luck

chill homie… 7th grade doesn’t even matter at all and 9th grade barely does! I got a C+ in algebra 2 in 9th and I am not even worried that that will hinder my chances at a top university.

l0l you could’ve gotten Ds in middle school and no one would have cared…just work extra hard this year for Algebra 2. Don’t predict a B+, make an A happen

I wouldn’t say 9th grade “barely” matters. O_O Upward trend is good, though. Work hard and pull yourself up!

Middle school grades mean absolutely nothing. Your grades are very important from grades 9 to 11.They are in the same league as preschool grades honestly. Those are the three years when they matter the most. If you get a B or two on your record, I don’t feel like colleges will hold it against you. They know flukes happen and that nobody is perfect. Also, A-, A, and A+? It’s all the same to colleges.

To the girl who got a C+ in 9th grade…not to scare you or rain on your parade, but getting a C in any high school class can actually be considered a red flag to many top colleges. They can let a couple B’s slide by, but a C is a tough one for them to swallow. The situation is different depending on the school, but I wouldn’t get too comfortable.

No the whole point is that Algebra I, although I took it in middle school, is a high school level class and thus will be on my high school transcript. So they DO care about that one.

Most students attend separate middle and high schools, and so colleges only see their high school transcripts. It’s simply assumed that you performed satisfactorily in Algebra in middle school if you placed into higher-level Math for high school. You have a long road ahead of you, and the last thing to worry about is seventh grade. You’ll be taking the most rigorous available course-load, and that’s what matters most to colleges. Stay focused on the present.

Way to early to be worrying about a B+ that hasn’t even happened yet. As mentioned before, nobody sees your middle school grades, so just do your best the next few years and you will find the right school for you. There are many options at all levels for everybody. Instead of worrying about a perfect GPA, spend the next 3 years making yourself a well-rounded candidate, do well on your standardized tests, and it will all work out for you.
