Can a college language course used to fulfill an IGETC area fulfill the LOTE req?

Hey guys,
We all know that courses cannot be double-counted for IGETC. However, I was wondering if anyone has researched whether a course can be double-counted for both an IGETC Area and the LOTE requirement, since the LOTE requirement is special and can take high school credits.

Thanks a lot!

Yes, absolutely. It should say on your IGETC form that you can double count LOTE courses.

Thanks so much!
I believe this is the statement on my IGETC form most closely related to what you’re saying:

“A single community college course may be listed in the IGETC Course Agreement under more than on subject area; however, it may be used only once to satisfy one IGETC subject area.”

If someone can decipher this, that would be great. If someone has clearer text pertaining to double-counting for LOTE, that would be even better, as I am not sure whether the above statement means my college does allow it or doesn’t!

Which CC do you go to? On the assist webpage for De Anza it says:

“Courses listed in multiple areas shall not be certified in more than one area except for courses in Languages Other Than English, which can be certified in both areas 3B and 6A.”

I’m sure your CC has similar policies regarding the LOTE requirement and double counting.
If you can’t find anything on assist to clarify this, ask a counselor at your CC!

Ah, yes. My college’s ASSIST IGETC page has the same statement, while the actual paper IGETC form does not.

Thank you very much!
